One Thing To Fear Is Oil Addiction

The demise of the presidency of Barack Obama, in the eyes of environmentalists and others around the warming globe, who are against trusting the oil barons (a subset of the plunder barons, a subset of the robber barons) continues unabated.

President Obama's public statement and decision (about three weeks before the greatest offshore oil drilling disaster in U.S. history began) to allow offshore drilling because "the tired old arguments" against it were now moot because of all "the improvements in oil drilling technology", will go down as one of the most foolish, unaware, dumb, and dangerous decisions ever made:
The Obama administration is proposing to open vast expanses of water along the Atlantic coastline, the eastern Gulf of Mexico and the north coast of Alaska to oil and natural gas drilling, much of it for the first time ... the sheer breadth of the offshore drilling decision will take some of his supporters aback ...
(NY Times). It will become known as the "top kill" policy which killed the top politician's effect in the top office in the federal government, at least to those who know "the sheer breadth" of the insanity of that decision.

The oil barons, plunder barons, yes, the robber barons now may be getting scared themselves:
Mr Suttles said BP had determined that the "top kill" method - which had been going on since Wednesday - had failed after studying the results for three days.

"We have not been able to stop the flow," he told reporters on Saturday.

"This scares everybody, the fact that we can't make this well stop flowing, the fact that we haven't suceeded [sic] so far," he said.
(BBC News, emphasis added). Oh, but you oilsters are a great "success" in the eyes of Wall Street, The White House, The Congress, and the world wide corporate community.

You are a great "success" at deceiving the world into believing oil addiction is the only addiction available, the only "solution."

You in power are criminally insane because you have removed accountability to the people from your sphere.

The result is that accountability is now in the hands of a planet that has a "Toyota gas pedal" that you installed on it.

So get ready to experience your insanity like never before, because what is going to happen will eventually drive everyone insane with fear.

  2. Randy,

No doubt that elements within human civilization (MOMCOM) is the greatest enemy to itself and to the Earth as well.

  3. Oil addiction yes, but there's also the significant technology mindset that declares any problem whatsoever can be solved by more technology. While the techies may or may not be right about the safety of offshore drilling alone, they're far more likely to get that right than find a viable, plentiful, cheap replacement for fossil fuels in our lifetimes, therefore the drilling for remaining reserves will continue unabated.

Further, the implications of the green economy - that no amount of technology will EVER replace cheap oil as an energy source, and therefore ENORMOUS economic and population contractions that technolgy will have no answers for are in store - scares THE SHIT out of them. The high priests of cheap oil enabled technology are going to be exposed as less than all-knowing and all-powerful in the coming age of diminishing resources, and like the religious priests before them, that's not gonna sit too well. Expect them to resist that idea to their last remaining breaths.

  4. One thing's for sure, if this thing plays out until August or later as it now looks like it will, it will definitely signal our intentions regarding our oil addiction going forward. If a spill of this magnitude doesn't prompt a complete rethinking (although ironically, the first response might be a renewed focus on mideast wars as a means to secure our oil lifelines), then it's hard to imagine what would. To me, it signifies the total bankruptcy of current thinking and the true depths of our oil addiction. Our society will implode disastrously when a significant portion of the oil lifeline dries up, and that's coming much sooner than any of us suspect.

  5. disaffected,

"find a viable, plentiful, cheap replacement for fossil fuels"

That has been around for billions of years, it is just that "we have been looking for love in all the wrong places", we refuse to see it, we embrace denial desperately, and succumb willingly to the hopeless and dirty addiction.

It is anything but the fault of environmentalists and clean energy people.

The fault is with the worshippers of Oilah who peddle the holy oil as the only god of civilization.

The civilization that has a death-grip on doom.

  6. I see where Navy Admiral Mullen, Chairman JCoS, says, "Personally I believe the law should change," regarding "Don't Ask Don't Tell" - an aside, has there EVER been a more asinine named policy ever? - even as he calls for a "review" on how to implement it. What the difference between a "review" and a "study" might be was not specified, but evidently the military doesn't have enough to do with two wars on their plates, so now they'll be adding a "review," and who knows, possibly even a "study" of the effects of implementing a policy that essentially already exists, if you simply ignore the policy that DOES exist, which is called "Don't Ask Don't Tell." If I were Admiral Mullen (thank GOD I'm not!), I'd just resign immediately and publicly admit that I'm a gay bashing idiot.

As I've said before, I don't know why honorable gay or lesbian members of the Armed Forces put up with this shit at all. God knows, the US military could not afford an open revolt/mass resignation, which is what should happen. Allowing shitheads like Mullen and the rest of the old guard the privelege of appearing to be the good guys in this matter is simply one that should not be extended. Wait and see; they'll repeal DADT and come up with yet another duplicitous policy means to discriminate against gays and lesbians. Why is Obama negotiating with these cocksuckers?
