It's In The GenBank - 8

A very recent discussion of a very recent paper indicates that:

"A small, unassuming fern-like plant has something massive lurking within: the largest genome ever discovered, outstripping the human genome by more than 50 times1.

The plant (Tmesipteris oblanceolata) contains a whopping 160 billion base pairs, the units that make up a strand of DNA. That’s 11 billion more than the previous record holder, the flowering plant Paris japonica, and 30 billion more than the marbled lungfish (Protopterus aethiopicus), which has the largest animal genome. The findings were published today in iScience."

(Biggest genome ever found, emphasis added). Sounds remarkable, but a link to the nucleotides, the base pairs, i.e. the genome is a fundamental courtesy which was not provided.

A reader comment indicates that the genome of "Tmesipteris oblanceolata" (a.k.a. "Tmesipteris truncata") on science related databases does not have any genome of that size .

 Any links to the alleged 1.6 gigabyte genome would be helpful.

In a previous post of this series I observed:

And in the group-mind trance, we experience all the features of other trance states."

(January Six Committee - 3). The largest group count for the political trances is in the millions (e.g. seventy million voted for Trumpism).

That Trumpism group has been surpassed in numbers by another trance where "1 in 4 Americans Apparently Unaware the Earth Orbits the Sun" (Time Magazine, cf. Once Upon A Time In The West - 2).

An even more popular trance ices the cake though, the one that does not understand that the greatest location for ice and fresh water is the largest desert on Earth ("Widespread seawater intrusions beneath the grounded ice of Thwaites Glacier, West Antarctica").

The greatest election trance at the moment that is closely related to the January Six Committee report is that even though a jury convicted one of the party's favorite he is really a saint.

If you have clicked on any Dredd Blog posts which have links to The Wayback Machine lately, you may have been a victim of this:

"The Internet Archive, the nonprofit research library that’s home to millions of historical documents, preserved websites, and media content, is currently in its third day of warding off an intermittent DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) cyber-attack. According to library staff, the collections are safe, though service remains inconsistent. Access to the Internet Archive Wayback Machine – which preserves the history of more than 866 billion web pages – has also been impacted."

(The Internet Archive). Dredd Blog links to The Wayback Machine when those who are the enemies of historical knowledge "delete, hide, or 'loose'" material they do not want us to remember.

Who would do that (a despotic minority)?

Seaports On Top Of The World

There have been many Dredd Blog series containing information about seaports (Seaports With Sea Level Change, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35).

I began that series with this: 

"If you peruse the seaports of civilization  and if you are like me, you will become concerned about civilization's ability to change all of these seaports to adapt to changing sea levels and coastal storms."

(ibid). One very interesting issue concerning the sea level changes in that series (example: Graph A-C) is that in the graphs of today's appendices we can see that the patterns of sea level change at seaports in that series looks like today's graphs of the cargo volumes of the top 50 seaports (i.e. both fall and rise happen to both seaport volume change and seaport sea level change).

The "take-home" difference is that both sea level rise and sea level fall are a danger to seaports, but volume fall (decrease) is a danger but volume rise (increase) is not.

Today's appendices contain graphs of the volume of seaports that have both volume decrease and volume increase of the top 50 seaports.

They are alphabetized  by country name (Appendix a-c, Appendix d-g, Appendix h-l, Appendix m-o, Appendix p-t, Appendix u-z) with one exception (the average volume of all 50 is in appendix u-z under "Various").

To top it off, the blues of the ocean is a concept best explained in the musical video below.
