(Wikipedia, Battlestar Galactica, emphasis added). They were very lost earthlings whose ancestors originated on the planet Earth, but their descendants became lost "in space" to the point of not really knowing who they were, where they came from, or even where they were.
That literary work is a great metaphor that can be used to contemplate some of the civilization dynamics in our time.
It is 'usual' or 'normal' to read unusual and abnormal news stories, papers, and books about the largest race (the human race) and its seemingly parallel adventure to Battlestar Galactica taking place here and now (World at risk of hitting temperature limit soon, U.S. has entered unprecedented climate territory).
It's like "dood, you are here" (You Are Here, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6).

On another important subject dig this, the McTell News is spreading the story that MOMCOM really wants to find the origin of something (White House: Finding COVID-19 Origin a Top Priority).
Did you notice the 'trickery' in that title?
There is a massive coverup (started by: The Shapeshifters of Bullshitistan, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23) that is now likely to be perpetuated by the current administration's want for a commission ('special commissions' do the best coverups).
So, trickery number one is the "COVID-19 Origin" diversion.
It is a diversion because they want you to equate COVID-19 (a disease) with SARS-CoV-2 (a virus).
We already know the origin of COVID-19 (a disease) ... pssst ... it's origin is called SARS-CoV-2 (a virus).
The next trick they subtly infer is to pretend that this is a geographical issue (a geography question), because they are considering 'where on earth' geology (China? America?) for the origin of COVID-19 (the disease).
The truth is that it is a virology/microbiology question ("What is the origin of the SARS-CoV-2 virus?"), not a geography question.
But, since the virology/microbiology question presents an existential threat to the "mass-production-of-animals-for-food industry", a major source of export dollars, food, and yada yada, it is too you-know-what (like the "mass-production-of-bullshit-industry, Oil-Qaeda, etc.).
It is a "too big to fail" industry (On The Origin Of The Home Of COVID-19, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21).
UPDATE, June 4: On "Morning Jaw" (MSNBC) this morning they had a reporter (Katherine Eban) visit and argue that no SARS-CoV-2 had been found in animals in China, which is utterly false (How China’s ‘Bat Woman’ Hunted Down Viruses from SARS to the New Coronavirus, Scientific American).
