When Grist came out with this article on Nov 07, 2025, this Dredd Blog series was already at The Saturation Chronicles - 14.

Yes, Dredd Blog published 14 relevant posts prior to the Grist article, the 14th one was posted about six months prior to the Grist article (see The Saturation Chronicles, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 , 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22).

That Grist article is fallacious to the extent that it, in addition to ignoring the Saturation Chronicles series, also ignores (The Photon Current, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 , 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22) and (In Search Of Ocean Heat, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22). 

The imagination in the Grist post leans upon a (IMO Warming Commentariat) paper: "Southern Ocean Heat Burp in a Cooling World" (I am reviewing the references used by the Burp' paper and so far find no TEOS-10 references)..

Those who use official up to date oceanography TEOS-10 ("TEOS-10 was adopted by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission at its 25th Assembly in June 2009 to replace EOS-80 as the official description of seawater and ice properties in marine science"), which that Grist article failed to use, will at once see the 'Burp' paper's lack of up-to-date ocean thermodynamic knowledge.

Ocean Heat ('potential enthalpy') is a TEOS-10 subject.

Human DNA Found In 2-3 Mya eDNA? - 6

It's Everywhere!

Continuing with our perusal of eDNA/aDNA, here is another list of 'human DNA' segments found in the 2-3 million year old Greenland eDNA (Appendix NFO).

The span of years contemplated in this series (2-3 million) is not out of bounds:

"Sahelanthropus tchadensis is one of the oldest known species in the human family tree. This species lived sometime between 7 and 6 million years ago ..."

(Smithsonian National Museum, emphasis added). Getting a bit more specific about the genetics involved:

"DNA also shows that our species and chimpanzees diverged from a common ancestor species that lived between 8 and 6 million years ago."

(ibid, genetics, emphasis added).  The project containing the list of FASTQ data files being perused during this series is Project ENA PRJEB55522.

Handle scientific research with care:

"The labs and protocols are designed to safeguard these precious samples from contamination. A strict working procedure guides researchers through the labs. This system, combined with positive air pressure, full personal protective equipment and a meticulous cleaning regime, provides the environment essential for preventing cross-contamination, whether from modern human DNA or between different eDNA samples." 

(Cambridge aDNA - eDNA labs, emphasis added). Thus, this series is not "out of bounds" and is within the scope of the eDNA/aDNA realm of time too, eh?

Remember too that "Neanderthals may have been just as smart as modern human peers".

Human DNA Found In 2-3 Mya eDNA? - 5

"Parts is parts"
The question ("Human DNA Found In 2-3 Mya eDNA?") is answered in some degree with it depends of what you call 'human DNA'.

Is human DNA only the unique DNA->mRNA strands sent to the Ribosomes in the Cytoplasm (see second short video below).

If so, then human DNA has been detected in eDNA, because when I was searching in my SQL tables containing Modern Human DNA and ancient Greenland eDNA, I found eDNA matches in several different human chromosomes (1, 2, 3, 6, 11, 14, 17, and X, etc.) so far; see appendixes (NFO 1, NFO 2, and NFO 3) for examples of DNA->mRNA strands (e.g. "ATG*TTA*AAC*CAT*CCC*TGC*ATC*CCT*GGT*ATG*AAA*CCC*ACT*TGA" as explained earlier in this series).

But if many different eukaryotes (human, non-human) contain some identical DNA->mRNA strands then at least we have detected that the beginning of these strands (in humans etc.) are 2-3 million years old at least. 

And since those DNA->mRNA strands are found in multiple human chromosomes in today's humans, one wonders how they ended up in that 2-3 million year old Greenland environment eDNA (if there were no "humans" back then).

Furthermore, I have barely "scratched the surface" of the amount of FASTQ files available at the project (ENA Browser).

I will continue to search the gigabytes of data as a public service.
