The Science Police - 2

About two anniversaries ago Dredd Blog posted The Science Police, which many thought was a parody.

It wasn't, it was about an actual department within the federal government that polices various scientists in the USA.

Today we discuss the same issue, except that it refers to the science police in another department within the government.

One organization, Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER), considers the criminal investigation into a paper written by a scientist to have been instigated by MOMCOM, so PEER filed a complaint.

PEER fears that the science police want to cover up the great folly of petroleum usage in the world:
... an environmental watchdog group believes that the real reason for the investigation is pressure from oil and gas interests who see polar bears as pests that stand between them and the vast mineral reserves deep beneath the Arctic.

The details of the investigation are odd, to say the very least. On February 4, 2011, Monnett received a request for an interview from Eric May, a criminal investigator with the Office of the Inspector General at the Department of the Interior. May and another agent interviewed Monnett on February 23, 2011, in the Anchorage office of BOEMRE.

From the transcript, provided to Mother Jones by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER), it's clear that the interview focused largely on the polar bear paper, with the agents asking questions about his methodology and conclusions. The paper, published in the journal Polar Biology in 2006, documented four dead polar bears in the Beaufort Sea during the course of an annual whale survey in September 2004. It was the first paper to document dead bears, and Monnett and his coauthor projected that there would likely be an increase in bear deaths as sea ice declined in the region. During their conversation, Monnett noted that the paper was reviewed both internally at Minerals Management Service (now known as BOEMRE) and by scientists outside of the agency, and it was approved by MMS management before they submitted it to the journal. At the journal, it was reviewed by three anonymous peer reviewers and approved for publication.
(The Bare Police). In the same manner that Charles Blow detected African American soldier history propaganda coming out of MOMCOM's portion of Hollywood, environmental groups likewise have noticed a massive campaign to slander scientists in order to deny the environmental catastrophes already here doing trillions of dollars of damage to the USA.

The propaganda arm of the government of the government wants the public to be unaware that they are mass murderers, so they corrupt the science police just like organized crime has traditionally done to police departments.

Thumb Sucking For Power And Pleasure - 2

Exactly two years ago on this date Dredd Blog did a post about thumb sucking, pointing out its universality.

The current thumb sucking going on by the T-Baggers in D.C., combined with the throwing of a temper tantrum and a fit to get attention, demanding their own way at the expense of everyone else, fits into the stereotypical view of thumb suckers we talked about two years ago.

Thumb suckers, like the cave men, have a better self image of themselves than that stereotypical view.

We will discuss the matter further, following the review of the 7/29/09 post:

Most any social practice can be conceived of as an aberration or as an uplifting necessity.

Whether "it" is a necessity or an aberration can depend on the time of day, time of month, time of year, election cycle proximity to November 4th, and the like. That is, when "it" is being done can be a big factor for some reason.

All of that, of course, also heavily depends on who is doing the conceiving as to whether "it" is an aberration or an uplifting necessity.

So for an attention getter, I use thumb sucking adults as the "it" to get everyone's attention.

I use the subject matter thumb sucking adults not as a bad example or a good example, but just as a simple example.

This phenomenon has religious and cultural manifestations which is not unique to United States culture:
Does thumb-sucking affect the fast?

Assalamu alaikum

I have an awkward problem, that is I still suck my thumb since I was a child!, it can be quite extreme when I am not feeling too well. I am in doubt if this is Haram at all, and does it nullify my fast? I heard a friend say anything that enters the body nullifies the fast. Plse answer my question a.s.a.p. because Ramadan is beginning soon and it is extremely embarassing for me to talk to anyone about it, not even my husband!.

Jazakum allah alf Khair

----------------------------------------------------------

Praise be to Allaah.

Wa ‘alaykum al-salaam wa rahmat-Allaahi wa barakaatuhu.

You have to try hard to give up this habit, and take your thumb out of your mouth every time you realize that you are sucking your thumb. Whatever happens because of forgetfulness will not affect your fast. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah has forgiven my ummah for what they do by mistake or out of forgetfulness, and what they are forced to do.”
(Islam Q&A). Thumb sucking begins while a human is yet embryonic and still within the mother's womb.

It is a personal comfort thing, attached to an individual's own psyche, and to the extent understood, is normal up to a point, but no longer normal beyond that point (so say the gods of normality anyway), and as usual, "that point" varies like political doctrine and taste for beer.

The robe wearers (psyche-doctors of various and sundry sorts) disagree and agree among themselves, as they do on most any topic, as to why thumb sucking arises and why it is perpetuated in some adults but not others.

My take on it is different strokes for different folks, but that goes nowhere fast.

Some of my observations detail how the bullies hurt people to get more pleasure than they can get from thumb sucking, and how they quit thumb sucking as soon as their bully business prospers sufficiently, and they then have a sufficient clientèle on the playground whom they can terrorize.

Lets note that they would have done far better as thumb sucking adults.

Others on the playground take up finger painting, sports, the swings, daydreaming, or hanging out with other kids they like, and leave the thumb sucking behind that way.

Whatever.

Our social structures do not deal with any of this effectively, because our cultures look at what the kids put down on paper during tests as the be all, leaving both aberrant and normal playground dynamics to parents and prison wardens to sort out later.

My concern is that this is no way to develop cosmic adults, no way to preserve the human species into our cosmic future, and just plain "no way".

Of course we all say it takes a village to raise a child, and that is true, but our failing as a species is our concept of the size and shape of "a village".

Clearly, a cosmic village is globe shaped my friends.

That was then, but then again the current debt crisis was created by the policies of Bush II:
With President Obama and Republican leaders calling for cutting the budget by trillions over the next 10 years, it is worth asking how we got here — from healthy surpluses at the end of the Clinton era, and the promise of future surpluses, to nine straight years of deficits, including the $1.3 trillion shortfall in 2010. The answer is largely the Bush-era tax cuts, war spending in Iraq and Afghanistan, and recessions.

Despite what antigovernment conservatives say, non-defense discretionary spending on areas like foreign aid, education and food safety was not a driving factor in creating the deficits. In fact, such spending, accounting for only 15 percent of the budget, has been basically flat as a share of the economy for decades. Cutting it simply will not fill the deficit hole.
(How the Deficit Got This Big). By lying us into endless wars that were unfunded, giving the legal drug companies the greatest windfalls in their history, and by cutting taxes to those who did not need it, Bush II plundered the rest of us.

The notorious Bush II and the bushies ended up taking a budget surplus then turned it into the greatest deficits in our history, a problem we are still struggling with.

Dredd Blog has repeatedly called this the age of criminal insanity because of the behavior of MOMCOM, so lets back it up once again with a quote from an expert:
What doesn't go unnoticed is the fact that some of the character traits exhibited by serial killers or criminals may be observed in many within the political arena. While not exhibiting physical violence [except endless wars for no good reason], many political leaders display varying degrees of anger, feigned outrage and other behaviors. They also lack what most consider a "shame" mechanism. Quite simply, most serial killers and many professional politicians must mimic what they believe, are appropriate responses to situations they face such as sadness, empathy, sympathy, and other human responses to outside stimuli.
(Serial killers and politicians share traits). Now, as the ones who do the dance of the mass murdering psychopath, as they suck their thumbs in public like a Lilly Tomlin comic character, they blame the adult older people of the middle class for it, or even stoop lower to blame the poor adults among us.

They are doing this sham transfer of blame so they can plunder us even more.

They seem to think the public is composed of the suckers, even as they suck away.

Sun Gives New Meaning To Hot Wars - 2

This is a repost of a Dredd Blog post two years ago on this very date:
A recent post discusses the concerns military folk have about the likelihood that global climate change will lead to more wars.

From the perspective of James Madison, this means that the Mother of All Enemies has joined forces with nature against us.

To top that off, a new report has just been released, which says that is only the half of it, i.e., the Sun and El Nino are back into the equation:
The world faces record-breaking temperatures as the sun's activity increases, leading the planet to heat up significantly faster than scientists had predicted for the next five years, according to a study.

The hottest year on record was 1998, and the relatively cool years since have led to some global warming sceptics claiming that temperatures have levelled off or started to decline. But new research firmly rejects that argument.

The research, to be published in Geophysical Research Letters, was carried out by Judith Lean, of the US Naval Research Laboratory, and David Rind, of Nasa's Goddard Institute for Space Studies.

The work is the first to assess the combined impact on global temperature of four factors: human influences such as CO2 and aerosol emissions; heating from the sun; volcanic activity and the El Niño southern oscillation, the phenomenon by which the Pacific Ocean flips between warmer and cooler states every few years.
(Guardian). The ice packs will be changed, and ocean levels will be too.

And that means a natural impact on national economies which could be huge.

A new discovery, which will cause many more scientific textbooks to head for the great shredder in the sky, indicates that there is 3 times more carbon dioxide in permafrost than was previously calculated, meaning that the cycle will feed on itself causing acceleration.
So, was Dredd Blog looking ahead for Dredd Blog readers or what!

Evolution From Left To Right - 2

Same story, different psychopath.

In the first post of this series we discussed the evolution of a young man from left to right, from a young happy kid, to a deranged madman who killed about a dozen innocent people.

People who his diseased imagination, led astray by his Id, thought had done him some wrong in some way.

This new guy with the diseased Id, from Norway, went down into the same snake hole in his reptilian brain, perhaps via the Amygdala.

The blood of scores of children at summer camp felt his right doing wrong, felt his righteous vengeance, felt his fully developed right wing wrath after he had unknowingly narrowed the distance between right and wrong.

It is the "destroy in order to save meme" so prevalent in western culture during this, the Sixth Mass Extinction, this age of the Glory Daze, this age of criminal insanity.

It is a time when the development of the Id, the Amygdala with wings, is seen to be the source of glory, the source of all things right wing, flying like Icarus into the patient, waiting Sun.

BTW, he was also angry about what the right wing nuts call "the greatest hoax", that is, he hates the science of global climate change ("green is the new red - stop enviro-communism").

When are we going to realize that the destination of cosmic adults is the proper direction and course to set, when are we going to see that this blaze of glory madness will turn both our history and our future into ashes?

Glory Daze

New Jersey rocker Bruce Springsteen penned a song about the notion of glory within the nostalgic mind of a single individual (Glory Days).

The British band Cold Play penned a song about the notion of glory from the nostalgic perspective of an empire (Viva La Vida, see video below).

Yes, metaphor gives words wings, but so does propaganda, therefore, anyone who is given any words with wings should know the fable of Icarus, then they should closely examine the source of those winged words.

The advent of hyper-secrecy and its injection into the religion of the U.S. Goverment, combined with the military take-over of the mass media, has led to the ongoing dementia, the ongoing daze, yes, the confusion about the notion of "glory" which is typical of an empire in decline.

As a result: the Glory Daze (a.k.a. the age of untruth):
“There will be, in the next generation or so, a pharmacological method of making people love their servitude, and producing dictatorship without tears, so to speak, producing a kind of painless concentration camp for entire societies, so that people will in fact have their liberties taken away from them, but will rather enjoy it, because they will be distracted from any desire to rebel by propaganda or brainwashing, or brainwashing enhanced by pharmacological methods. And this seems to be the final revolution.”
(Sickology v Penology, quoting Huxley). The "pharmacological method" has developed in the form of "the word toxin", which has given wings to the words of current civilization.

Its users have risen high into the stratosphere of intoxication, alas, into the realm of a daze of glory.

When this evolution from left to right is complete, nothing will be left, except the memorial daze.

Ode to empires.

Confusion As Government Policy

Citizens should be able to rely on what government officials say.

But that doesn't work if the government does not know what it is saying, how to say it, or does not know what everyone thought they said.

For example, how do young children develop when their parents or their teachers are chronically inconsistent?

What do they learn from an example of punishing them for something they told them it was ok for them to do a bit earlier?

They learn to not trust authority, because confusion is not a foundation for trust in any way shape or form.

On the medical marijuana front, the Obama Administration meets the old Indian adage "forked man speaks with white tongue", because the Obama Administration has said:
WASHINGTON — The Obama administration will not seek to arrest medical marijuana users and suppliers as long as they conform to state laws, under new policy guidelines to be sent to federal prosecutors Monday.

Two Justice Department officials described the new policy to The Associated Press, saying prosecutors will be told it is not a good use of their time to arrest people who use or provide medical marijuana in strict compliance with state laws.

The new policy is a significant departure from the Bush administration, which insisted it would continue to enforce federal anti-pot laws regardless of state codes.

Fourteen states allow some use of marijuana for medical purposes: Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington.
(Huffington Post, October 2009, emphasis added). That induced the potential for a consistency in states that wanted to pass laws licensing all such distribution.

Now the Obama administration is muddying the waters, leaving the hope of a clear policy behind in the dust, yes, in the cloudy dust of confusion:
This will certainly have a chilling effect on the types of businesses that open in medical marijuana states (and rest assured, they will continue to open). In this way, it is a huge step back from the Ogden memo.

If the spirit of the Ogden memo was to create a sense of consistency in federal enforcement, to let patients and those who supply their medicine feel safe within their own states, and make states feel confident crafting their own laws to best control medical marijuana, then Cole’s statement is a major reversal.

But is it open season on dispensaries? Probably not.

Just because the DOJ has said that they can and may prosecute anyone involved in medical marijuana distribution, does not mean that they will. If the DOJ is publicly saying that this new statement does not reflect a change in policy, there is no guarantee that they are going to suddenly start prosecuting legitimate businesses in places with clear regulations to determine their compliance with state law – especially in the case of smaller operations.
(Opposing Views). Yet, last week state licensed small operators providing medical marijuana to patients with doctor's prescriptions were indicted in the State of Washington:
July 20, 2011 - Jerry Laberdee, Dennis Whited, Russell Blake, Charles Wright and Jon Vivian have been indicted on federal charges that arose from a crackdown on medical marijuana dispensaries in Spokane, Washington earlier this year. The charges carry maximum penalties of 20 years in prison and fines up to $250,000.
(California NORML). Actually, the largest penalty in that three-count indictment calls for a minimum 5 years to a maximum of 40 years in prison, followed by 4 years to life of "supervised release", a form of parole / probation.

It is as if these people who were relying on public policy statements of the federal government, as well as complying with state law, are now being treated as harsh as murderers are (the Norway mass murderer can only get 21 years), for relying on government statements, then, based on those statements, going forth to help people in chronic, doctor verified, pain.

It appears that there was a vortex of un-American entrapment, in as much as it appears that these medicinal servants were sucked into some political train wreck by confused government propaganda, which is a dysfunctional policy that sucks to high heaven in any supposed democracy!

The government is behaving like an Alzheimer sufferer who is dazed and confused, doing one thing one minute, then doing the opposite a minute later.

To destroy these American lives with such a hypocritical state of confusion makes it criminal IMO; so I can see no logical reason for the "government" to expect any trust, henceforth, from the populace.

Especially at a time when the "mature government talks on the national debt" (wink, wink) are sapping the nation of any trust whatsoever in its government.

Back stabbing the populace is the most terrible thing a government can do to the people it took an oath to be forthright with and above-board to.
