Welcome to It Can Happen Here

Another danger is lurking besides the current viral pandemic case load increases, and it is directly related to it.

The danger is that millions of people may not be able to vote because they will be homeless and/or out of work.

They may become so stressed that voting will be the last thing on their mind:

"Across the country, renters and tenants advocates are sounding the alarm about the coming eviction crisis, referring to it as an avalanche or tsunami. Over the past five months, more than 44 million Americans have filed for unemployment amid the COVID-19 pandemic. As the recession continues, economic stimulus payments are spent, and expanded Unemployment Insurance expires, many of these displaced workers will be unable to make housing payments.

Mass evictions would be a disaster. For both individuals and families, evictions result in severe harm; when they become widespread, there are also significant consequences for entire communities and even the speed of economic recovery. Policymakers are actively seeking solutions, but it is difficult to prepare without knowing the size of the problem.

The COVID-19 Eviction Defense Project (CEDP) was formed to solve that problem. It is a coalition of economic researchers and legal experts who developed a model to estimate eviction risk nationally and at the state level. The disturbing result: 19 to 23 million, or one in five of the 110 million Americans who live in renter households, are at risk of eviction by September 30, 2020.

(The Aspen Institute). It may be bad for homeowners too in the sense of foreclosures, depending on the governments' (federal and state) response.

The greatest threat to avoiding this potential catastrophe is the despotic minority (How To Identify The Despotic Minority, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14).

They are cruel enough to lock up children and rip them from the arms of their parents, cruel enough to weakly respond to the Covid-19 crisis, and cruel enough to encourage stress syndrome conditions then suppress the vote.

The Rus People

I. Foreward or Backward?

We don't hear much about the history of the Rus people.

They are the ancestors of modern day Russia.

We hear mostly about their current totalitarian leader, who, if he was a democratic type of leader like those in England, Germany, or other such countries, our current wanna-be totalitarian president would not like him (The Shape Shifters Of Bullshitistan - 19).

Our current wanna-be totalitarian president says he loves another totalitarian who just executed his envoy to the US (USA Today), and covers for a 'prince of a man' who caused the death of a U.S. resident journalist (Awe Topsy - 4).

II. Typical "Wee The People" Dynamics

Our forefathers came from the same secular womb that all efforts toward a government by the people emerge from, instead of a government lording it over the people (Wee The People, 2, 3).

The Rus' people have also been through all of that over the centuries:
"The history of Russia begins with that of the East Slavs and the Finno-Ugric peoples. The traditional beginning of Russian history is the establishment of Rus' state in the north in 862 ruled by Vikings. Ladoga and Novgorod were the first major cities of the new union of immigrants from Scandinavia with the Slavs and Finno-Ugrians. In 882, Novgorod Prince Oleg seized Kiev, thereby uniting the northern and southern lands of the Eastern Slavs under one power. After the 13th century, Moscow became a cultural center. The state now extended from the eastern borders of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth to the Pacific Ocean. Peasant revolts were common, and all were fiercely suppressed. Russian serfdom was abolished in 1861, but the peasants fared poorly and often turned to revolutionary pressures. In the following decades, reform efforts such as the Stolypin reforms, the constitution of 1906, and the State Duma attempted to open and liberalize the economy and political system, but the tsars refused to relinquish autocratic rule or share their power.

The Russian Revolution in 1917 was triggered by a combination of economic breakdown, war-weariness, and discontent with the autocratic system of government. It initially brought to power a coalition of liberals and moderate socialists, but their failed policies led to seizure of power by the communist Bolsheviks on 25 October. Between 1922 and 1991, the history of Russia is essentially the history of the Soviet Union, effectively an ideologically based state which was roughly conterminous with the Russian Empire before the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. The approach to the building of socialism, however, varied over different periods in Soviet history, from the mixed economy and diverse society and culture of the 1920s to the command economy and repressions of the Joseph Stalin era to the "era of stagnation" in the 1980s. From its first years, government in the Soviet Union was based on the one-party rule of the Communists, as the Bolsheviks called themselves, beginning in March 1918."
(Culture of Ancient Rus).  It is interesting that "The Vikings" also had a part in the formation of the early governments of English speaking peoples:
"For Britain however was reserved the second invading wave. It came from the North. In Scandinavia the Vikings fitted out their long-boats for sea. This double assault by Arab infidels and Nordic pirates distracted the weakened life of Europe for ten generations. It was not until the eleventh century that the steel-clad feudalism of medieval Christendom, itself consisting largely of the converted descendants of the Vikings, assigned limits to the Arab conquests, and established at the side of the Christian Church ample and effective military power."
(Churchill, A History of the English Speaking Peoples, p. 71). All peoples have struggled with oppressive governments and have eventually, in common, failed for the most part:
But always TCS [The Creep State] is primarily the population segment diagnosed as a despotic minority which the once most-often-quoted historian, Toynbee, fingered as one of the members of the trinity of extinction that he found in all civilizations that were about to become very successful at becoming extinct:
That something is the dementia that produces and ends up in suicide:
"In other words, a society does not ever die 'from natural causes', but always dies from suicide or murder --- and nearly always from the former, as this chapter has shown."
(A Study of History, by Arnold J. Toynbee). There is no cure for the final symptom of that group dementia, there is only prevention by way of avoiding it altogether in the first place.

The components of that group dementia were pointed out in an encyclopedia piece concerning that historian quoted above:
"In the Study Toynbee examined the rise and fall of 26 civilizations in the course of human history, and he concluded that they rose by responding successfully to challenges under the leadership of creative minorities composed of elite leaders. Civilizations declined when their leaders stopped responding creatively, and the civilizations then sank owing to the sins of nationalism, militarism, and the tyranny of a despotic minority. Unlike Spengler in his The Decline of the West, Toynbee did not regard the death of a civilization as inevitable, for it may or may not continue to respond to successive challenges. Unlike Karl Marx, he saw history as shaped by spiritual, not economic forces" ...
(Encyclopedia Britannica, emphasis added). The show stopper, in terms of remedy, in this type of group dementia is that it is a contagious dementia.
(Etiology of Social Dementia - 18). That particular "minority" is not a racial or ethnic minority, rather, it is primarily composed of a destructive suicidal trance (Choose Your Trances Carefully, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8).

Our culture is composed, now, of the toxins of power that habitually destroy nations and civilizations (Hypothesis: The Cultural Amygdala - 2).(When You Are Governed By Psychopaths - 8). Voting politicians out of office, because they cater to the despotic minority, is not enough.
(How To Identify The Despotic Minority). Like the seemingly endless struggle for a civilized government of, by, and for the people, a seemingly endless emergence of a despotic minority is always at the door.

III. The Common Good

The founders of the United States expressed the desire of people everywhere to have a common chance to go through life without oppression and to experience the common good (The Common Good, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11).

Nothing has changed in that regard, or in the counter struggles to enslave the peoples of the world.

Russia, America, China, Europe, Asia, The North, The South, The East, and The West all have that in common.

The Extinction of Robust Sea Ports - 2

I. Background

When I write about endangered infrastructure going extinct it rankles those who like to hear about endangered species (The Extinction of Robust Sea Ports).

It does not bother them that living things die as much as it bothers them that non-living things they have built are going to be destroyed.

Some of their retorts are of this sort: "no one knows the future so stuff it."

Then they turn around and tell me the future by saying "these ports will be fine forever because we can adapt.'

Those tricksters are in effect claiming to be the only ones who know the future.

They intend for us to swallow the notion that their version of the future can be known by them, but no one else can know the future.

So, when you hear "no one knows the future" remember that they are actually saying "no one knows the future except us."

Like all of their other imperialistic cognition, they want to invade and capture all concepts of the future (along with everything else).

The way they do this is by ignoring the abundant evidence suggesting their unavoidable demise.

II. The Basis of Future Projections

The scientific way to project the future is to create evidence by analyzing previous behavioral events along with the results and consequences of that behavior.

Next in the process is to deduce that behavior "x" produced results "y" ... therefore, the future manifestation of behavior "x" will also produce results "y".

As a matter of fact, the inverse of that (doing the same thing expecting different results) is a known pattern of insanity ("Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." - Albert Einstein).

So, there is the evidence based view of the future, and there is the fictional, wishful thinking view of the future.

The basis I use is: if you do "x" behavior a week from now it will produce "y" results just like it did a week ago.

Their approach is no one knows the future, so you don't really know that doing "x" next week will produce "y" results.

III. Why Robust Seaports Will Become Extinct

Sea level rise is anomalous in this the Anthropocene, as shown in Dr. Mitrovica's presentation, the first video below.

Sea level was stable in the Late Holocene:
We present estimates for late Holocene relative sea level change along the Tyrrhenian coast of Italy based on morphological characteristics of eight submerged Roman fish tanks (piscinae) constructed between the 1st century B.C. and the 2nd century A.D. Underwater geomorphological features and archaeological remains related to past sea level have been measured and corrected using recorded tidal values. We conclude that local sea level during the Roman period did not exceed 58 ± 5 cm below the present sea level. These results broadly agree with previous observations in the region but contrast with recent analysis that suggests a significantly larger sea level rise during the last 2000 years. Using a glacial isostatic adjustment model, we explain how regional sea level change departs from the eustatic component. Our calculation of relative sea level during the Roman period provides a reference for isolating the long-wavelength contribution to sea level change from secular sea level rise. Precise determination of sea level rise in the study area improves our understanding of secular, instrumentally observed, variations across the Mediterranean.

Sea Level in Roman Times, PDF).  The second video below (Admiral David Tilley) alludes to the importance of sea level to sea ports (cf. Has The Navy Fallen For The Greatest Hoax?).

In Roman times, the fish were collected by the 1% in structures made of concrete and/or stone so as to keep live fish collected for their meals.

Those structures were constructed exactly at sea level so that at high tide the water would be refreshed, but the fish could not swim out.

These structures are now under water, because sea level has risen.

More importantly in the context of today's post, the sea port infrastructure constructed at those sea levels (e.g. for Roman Galleons), are likewise under water for the same reason.

Those facilities and infrastructure are now extinct, like the Roman Colosseum.

IV. Conclusion

Sea ports today face the same fate as the Roman Infrastructure, because sea level change is accelerating at a rate that is beyond the ability of official public works processes to keep up with (see e.g. Weekend Rebel Science Excursion - 44).

It is also now well known that at some sea ports the sea level will fall, while at other sea ports the sea level will rise (see e.g. Peak Sea Level - 2).

To top it off, the rise and fall will subsist and continue unabated for a century or more (Groundhog Day & The Climate of Fear).

Continuing behavior "x" (burning fossil fuels) will continue to cause result "y" (sea level change), and any belief to the contrary is insane (Will This Float Your Boat - 9).

Will This Float Your Boat - 8

I. Background

From the first days of Dredd Blog posts, I have focused on what the U.S. presstitutes (In the Fog of The Presstitutes, 2, 3) and the junk U.S. journalists (a.k.a. Blind Willie McTell News, 2, 3, 4, 5) cannot seem to McTell us.

The main-money-stream, lucre driven, pulp-word peddlers of darkness are criminally bound to follow the lust for money.

Wherever the plunder of the truth lures them, that is where they will go (all the way to catastrophe for a buck), because they are part of the corruption that is making civilization extinct for the first time, while making the life in the ecosystem extinct for the sixth time (We Are Riding Out The Sixth Mass Extinction?).

II. The Inequality of False Framing

Some things are not debatable in the real world, yet the presstitution trance perpetuates the false debate about whether or not the Earth is flat whether global warming induced climate change is happening because of fossil fuel use:
[O]nce a scientific issue is closed, there's only one "side." Imagine providing a "balance" to the issue of whether the Earth orbits the Sun, whether continents move, or whether DNA carries genetic information. These matters were long ago settled in scientists' minds. Nobody can publish an article in a scientific journal claiming the Sun orbits the Earth.

The professional canon of journalistic fairness requires reporters who write about a controversy to present competing points of view. When the issue is of a political or social nature, fairness - presenting the most compelling arguments of both sides with equal weight - is a fundamental check on biased reporting. But this canon causes problems when it is applied to issues of science. It seems to demand that journalists present competing points of views on a scientific question as though they had equal scientific weight, when actually they do not.

The scientific method requires objective analysis of all data, stating evidence pro and con, before reaching conclusions. This works well, indeed is necessary, for achieving success in science. But science is now pitted in public debate against the talk-show method, which consists of selective citation of anecdotal bits that support a predetermined position. Why is the public presented results of the scientific method and the talk-show method as if they deserved equal respect?

The book argues that of all the factors that have led to this crisis, none is more important than the failure of America's mainstream media. The following excerpt, after introducing this issue, discusses one of the most important dimensions of the media's failure. The book was published before The Guardian, which had all along provided the best coverage, began its climate-change campaign, referring to the threat from climate change as "the biggest story in the world."
(The Media's Failure With the Biggest Story in the World). The putrid lies of the presstitutes render them unprofessional, unethical, unAmerican, and criminal.

III. Global Warming Is Real As A Matter of American Law

Even the Supreme Court is ahead of the presstitutes on this issue:
The harms associated with climate change are serious and well recognized. The Government’s own objective assessment of the relevant science and a strong consensus among qualified experts indicate that global warming threatens, inter alia, a precipitate rise in sea levels, severe and irreversible changes to natural ecosystems, a significant reduction in winter snowpack with direct and important economic consequences, and increases in the spread of disease and the ferocity of weather events.
(Global Warming Induced Climate Change Is A Matter of Law). The corrupt behavior of the vast majority of moneymongering media is illegal, and gives new meaning to outlier outlawliar.

IV. So When Does SLR Damage To Civilization Take Place?

The short answer is "years ago."

I came across the long answer while writing some software for sea level rise (SLR) projections.

It dawned on me what one of the, if not the, most pressing dangers to what we call civilization really is.

I mean, I came across one obvious damage scenario that is near term, not far off, not something that will not affect the lives of most people living today ("Anyone between 25 and 29 is already older than most of the people in the world" - At What Age Am I Older Than Most People?).

SLR modelling software projects SLR of ~1meter or ~3 ft. in the lifetimes of most of the people of the world:
The increasing Greenland mass loss ... can be fit just as well by exponentially increasing annual mass loss, a behavior that Hansen (2005, 2007) argues could occur because of multiple amplifying feedbacks as an ice sheet begins to disintegrate. A 10-year doubling time would lead to 1 meter sea level rise by 2067 ... 2045 ... for 5-year doubling time and 2055 ... for a 7-year doubling time.

Where I have differed was not to focus on "doubling" per se, but rather on rate of acceleration:
Notice that the ~3 ft. SLR takes place circa 2042 in these projected 14.87% -> 4.37% and 14.87% -> 4.08% acceleration details, rather than taking place circa 2100 as the IPCC projection expects.

What happens after 2042 in the graph indicates catastrophic SLR, if the current melt acceleration of 14.87% continues for perhaps another decade or so, as it has since 2009 until now.

Like I said though, it should decrease naturally as the "low hanging fruit" ice near the coasts of Greenland and W. Antarctica melt away, leaving only the more stable inland ice.
(Will This Float Your Boat - 5). This (2042) is quite close to "2045 ... for 5-year doubling time" as written by Hansen, Sato (2012) and quoted above.
(The Question Is: How Much Acceleration Is Involved In SLR? - 2).   The gravamen of the issue is not only when a ~1 meter or ~3 ft. SLR will manifest, but what will it do when it manifests?

V. So What Is the Damage SLR Would Do?

The gravamen of the issue is what will a ~1 meter or ~3 ft. SLR do to us: (The Agnotology of Sea Level Rise Via Ice Melt), and that mandates a focus on what it will do to the ports of the world:
"By volume, more than 95 percent of U.S. international trade moves through the nation's ports and harbors, with about 50 percent of these goods being hazardous materials."
(NOAA PORTS, emphasis added; cf. Ports & Harbors). This implies a grave threat far more real and certain than a solar CME doing damage to the power grid:
IT IS midnight on 22 September 2012 and the skies above Manhattan are filled with a flickering curtain of colourful light. Few New Yorkers have seen the aurora this far south but their fascination is short-lived. Within a few seconds, electric bulbs dim and flicker, then become unusually bright for a fleeting moment. Then all the lights in the state go out. Within 90 seconds, the entire eastern half of the US is without power.

A year later and millions of Americans are dead and the nation's infrastructure lies in tatters. The World Bank declares America a developing nation. Europe, Scandinavia, China and Japan are also struggling to recover from the same fateful event - a violent storm, 150 million kilometres away on the surface of the sun.

It sounds ridiculous. Surely the sun couldn't create so profound a ...
(New Scientist, emphasis added). The chances of millions of Americans dying because of a CME are very remote.

But, compared to the certainty of it happening due to SLR, well, remember the quote in Section II above: "The Guardian, which had all along provided the best coverage, began its climate-change campaign, referring to the threat from climate change as 'the biggest story in the world'."

VI. Most People On Earth Will Be Impacted

The dates, depending on acceleration rates, extend from 2033, 2042, 2045, and 2055, to 2067, as noted above (cf. What Do You Mean - World Civilization? - 2).

In Section III above we learned that most people in the world are between age 25 and 29, thus, at the earliest projected year (2033 - 2015 = 18) those people will be 43-47 years old.

Add to that the fact that many children will have been born by the longest projected date of 2067 as well.

Most of the ports, coastal towns and cities, coastal roads, coastal pipelines, and other infrastructure will be swamped with problems during their lifetimes.

VII. Conclusion

The American people are sensitive to what happens to their ports (Dubai Ports World controversy).

So are the people of some 196 countries with more than 4,764 ports (World Port Source).

The "biggest story in the world" is outside of the cultural trance (Choose Your Trances Carefully) of the majority of the presstitutes.

That is because, among other things, they are the lame stooges of Oil-Qaeda (Oil-Qaeda - The Indictment).

Inside Job and/or Conspiracy?

Reconstructing a narrative from its pieces
Some tragic events are a metaphor, an epitome, a simile, an analogy, or similar iconic representation of a larger reality.

Germanwings Airbus A320, Flight 4U 9525, was the scene of a mass-murder according to a French prosecutor.

In a news conference, it was revealed that the German co-pilot intentionally crashed the aircraft (Germanwings flight 4U9525 deliberately flown into mountain, says prosecutor).

Thus, we know that it was an inside job, a suicide, and a mass-murder.

We know that attempts were made to stop it, however, the cockpit door was too strong to get through, the external access mechanism was said to have been turned off, and/or a manual lock had been set, by the co-pilot.

So, the mass-murder could not be thwarted by the senior pilot.

But, was a conspiracy involved, a conspiracy that was engendered by converting the co-pilot's mind into a toxic cognitive machine?

Or, to put it into the vernacular, was someone whispering into the co-pilot's ear during his daily life, or had his mind been hijacked by pathogens a la Oil-Qaeda: The Deadliest Parasite Of Civilization?

I want to use this tragic event as representing (metaphor, epitome, simile, analogy, etc.) another tragic event that Dredd Blog has posted about time and again (MOMCOM's Mass Suicide & Murder Pact, 2, 3, 4, 5).

This airliner mass-murder-suicide event is like the mass-murder-suicide that is taking place within current world civilization.

The first similarity is that these realities are nearly impossible for the majority to comprehend and therefore find credible, even though notable historians have discovered the evidence:
"In other words, a society does not ever die 'from natural causes', but always dies from suicide or murder --- and nearly always from the former, as this chapter has shown."
(A Study of History,  by Arnold J. Toynbee). Psychologists have been puzzled by this phenomenon as applied to Oil-Qaeda:
06:28 - "the genetic argument allows us the luxury of ignoring past and present historical and social factors. In the words of Louis Menand who wrote in the New Yorker very astutely:
“It’s all in the genes”: an explanation for the way things are that does not threaten the way things are. Why should someone feel unhappy or engage in antisocial behavior when that person is living in the freest and most prosperous nation on Earth? It can’t be the system! There must be a flaw in the wiring somewhere.”
... which is a good way to put it. So the genetic argument is simply a cop-out that allows us to ignore the social and economic and political factors that in fact underlie many troublesome behaviors" (Dr. Maté).

07:25 - "addictions are usually considered to be a drug related issue, but looking at it more broadly, I find that addiction is any behavior that is associated with craving for temporary relief and with long term negative consequences along with an impairment of control over it so that the person wishes to give it up or promises to, but can't follow through" (Dr. Maté).

08:10 - "The addiction to oil ... at least to the wealth and to the products made accessible to us by oil ... look at the negative consequences on the environment we are destroying the very Earth that we inhabit for the sake of that addiction. Now these addictions are far more devastating in the social consequences than the cocaine or heroin habits of my ... patients. Yet they are rewarded and considered to be respectable. The tobacco company executive that shows a higher profit will get a much bigger reward ... doesn't face any negative consequences legally or otherwise ... in fact is a respected member of the board of several other corporations ... but tobacco smoke related diseases kill 5.5 million people around the world every year. In the United States they kill 400,000 people a year" (Dr. Maté).

09:05 - "And these people are addicted to what? To profit, to such a degree are they addicted that they are actually in denial about the impact of their activities, which is typical for addicts, is denial. And that is the respectable one. It is respectable to be addicted to profit no matter what the cost. So what is acceptable and what is respectable is a highly arbitrary phenomenon in our society. And it seems like the greater the harm the more respectable the addiction" (Dr. Maté).

09:35 - "There is a general myth that drugs in themselves are addictive, in fact the "War on Drugs" is predicated on the idea that if you interdict the sources of drugs you can deal with addiction that way. Now, if you understand addiction in the broader sense we see that nothing in itself is addictive. No substance, no drug is by itself addictive. And no behavior is by itself addictive"  (Dr. Maté).
(The "It's In Your Genes" Myth, quoting psychotherapists in a video). Without specific training or education it is not easy for anyone, even psychologists, to understand toxic thought in a toxic mind (i.e. psychopaths).

It is even more difficult when a trusted insider, a "co-" is involved ... something like the Judas syndrome.

It is also sometimes impossible for the perpetrators to understand their condition, or do anything about it, even if they should somehow suspect it:
... [Whitman] killed a receptionist with the butt of his rifle. Two families of tourists came up the stairwell; he shot at them at point-blank range. Then he began to fire indiscriminately from the deck at people below. The first woman he shot was pregnant. As her boyfriend knelt to help her, Whitman shot him as well. He shot pedestrians in the street and an ambulance driver who came to rescue them.

The evening before, Whitman had sat at his typewriter and composed a suicide note:
I don’t really understand myself these days. I am supposed to be an average reasonable and intelligent young man. However, lately (I can’t recall when it started) I have been a victim of many unusual and irrational thoughts.
By the time the police shot him dead, Whitman had killed 13 people and wounded 32 more. The story of his rampage dominated national headlines the next day. And when police went to investigate his home for clues, the story became even stranger: in the early hours of the morning on the day

of the shooting, he had murdered his mother and stabbed his wife to death in her sleep.
It was after much thought that I decided to kill my wife, Kathy, tonight … I love her dearly, and she has been as fine a wife to me as any man could ever hope to have. I cannot rationa[l]ly pinpoint any specific reason for doing this …
Along with the shock of the murders lay another, more hidden, surprise: the juxtaposition of his aberrant actions with his unremarkable personal life. Whitman was an Eagle Scout and a former marine, studied architectural engineering at the University of Texas, and briefly worked as a bank teller and volunteered as a scoutmaster for Austin’s Boy Scout Troop 5. As a child, he’d scored 138 on the Stanford-Binet IQ test, placing in the 99th percentile. So after his shooting spree from the University of Texas Tower, everyone wanted answers.

For that matter, so did Whitman. He requested in his suicide note that an autopsy be performed to determine if something had changed in his brain — because he suspected it had.
I talked with a Doctor once for about two hours and tried to convey to him my fears that I felt [overcome by] overwhelming violent impulses. After one session I never saw the Doctor again, and since then I have been fighting my mental turmoil alone, and seemingly to no avail.
Whitman’s body was taken to the morgue, his skull was put under the bone saw, and the medical examiner lifted the brain from its vault. He discovered that Whitman’s brain harbored a tumor the diameter of a nickel. This tumor, called a glioblastoma, had blossomed from beneath a structure called the thalamus, impinged on the hypothalamus, and compressed a third region called the amygdala.
(Atlantic Monthly, emphasis added). The main problem people have is that we tend to reason about these issues using logic, sanity, reasonableness, and other good dynamics, as a backdrop.

Thus, sound judgment is usually removed from the analytical equation.

So, from the very beginning incapacitation sets in, and mystery is all that can follow.

Like the little girl who is told that her mommy has a boyfriend besides her daddy, or that her daddy has a girlfriend besides her mommy, it does not compute.

And is, therefore, rejected forthwith by a culturally automated subconscious circuit (Security: Familyland, Fatherland, or Homeland?).

After all, notice what our own government says about Oil-Qaeda's number one product:
"Oil is the lifeblood of America’s economy."
(The Fleets & Terrorism Follow The Oil). In other words, the justification is: "mommy and daddy say we will die if we don't have our oil."

Thus, as the sea level rises, the sixth mass extinction proceeds unabated, the environment is increasingly poisoned, and the oil companies that make up Oil-Qaeda prosper into fabulous wealth (as more and more "others" become impoverished), the people exclaim "our pilots would never betray us" (The Elections of Pontius Pilots, 2, 3, 4, 5).

Civilization Is Now On Suicide Watch - 8

Maybe some of you have been agitated by the reminders in this series of what the famous historian Arnold J. Toynbee said.

Or at least you have been agitated by my quoting him several times.

Maybe several times too many.

But something happened recently, an archaeological discovery of a lost civilization.

So once again, let's take another look at what Toynbee said, and then apply it to the residue, debris, and cultural artefacts of that civilization to help us understand how accurate he was:
"In other words, a society does not ever die 'from natural causes', but always dies from suicide or murder --- and nearly always from the former, as this chapter has shown."
(Civilization Is Now On Suicide Watch). So, after that civilization was murdered or more likely, committed suicide, someone stumbled upon "it":
The story of this discovery begins in 2012 when an aerial survey of a remote valley in La Mosquitia, Honduras, revealed evidence of the ruins of a pre-Columbian city. Some experts thought the ruins might be part of the legendary “White City.”
(Ancient City, "Has Ancient Ferguson Been Found" - just kidding). The scientists going over the area are of a different, and much more interesting opinion than the hypothesis that it is a city:
Archaeologists, however, no longer believe in the existence of a single “lost city,” or Ciudad Blanca, as described in the legends. They believe Mosquitia harbors many such “lost cities,” which taken together represent something far more important—a lost civilization.
(National Geographic). It was a civilization thriving like any other, with commerce, politics, religion, love, hate, life and death.

Then it was gone.

The jungle grew over it, it became a myth or legend like Atlantis or the Hittite Empire, once a "shining city on a hill," then poof, empty, decaying, and gone from memory.

The cities and people surrounding the recently found civilization are evidence that there was no reason that civilization, whatever it was called, absolutely had to cease to exist.

As Toynbee said, "a society does not ever die 'from natural causes'", no, a society is perpetual, with citizens both being born and dying within its gates, as it lives on beyond the generation that founded it.

Egypt, for example, existed long before this newly discovered civilization, and still exists today, long after it.

Egypt's ancient glory is gone, but still it remains.

None of the old timers who built the pyramids, and other bloviating architecture, are around any more, but Egypt still is.

To the contrary, the mysterious civilization now hidden beneath the jungle overgrowth just went away.

Who knows when or why.

Except as Toynbee says, by suicide or by murder.

This series brings all that to our attention, because, we are in The Sixth Mass Extinction period, and are sure to try to become extinct too.

It seems that current civilization is more like "Jones Town," which was a murder suicide (MOMCOM's Mass Suicide & Murder Pact, 2, 3, 4, 5).

I would not be surprised if some, or many, survived the lost civilization we are talking about today, because, some were likely to see it coming and escape.

But, our civilization's weapons and poisons are strong beyond any civilization before us, to the point that we can destroy our civilization with nuclear weapons, or with our use of fossil fuels.

Potentially without any escape.

And, we are eagerly doing everything we need to do to "make it so."

Civilization Is Now On Suicide Watch - 7

Insanity First:  a Nutter Tale
I. Introduction

As Dredd Blog has noted on occasion, and as have others, there are two ongoing activities of our cultures that are currently threatening the very existence of "civilization" (definition: What Do You Mean - World Civilization?, Confusing "Civilization" With "Species").

These, and any others that are validly related (e.g. The Criminally Insane Epoch: The Criminally Insane Epoch Arises) can be placed into the category "Sixth Mass Extinction" or "Anthropocene" (We Are Riding Out The Sixth Mass Extinction?).

This is considered to be "suicide" (see post title) or omnicide in the sense that it is or was preventable.

The Sixth Mass Extinction (6th Mass Extinction Documentation) began with the Industrial Revolution (The Death Juice of The Worried Revolution), followed some years later by the subsequent Petroleum Revolution (Petroleum Civilization: The Final Chapter (Confusing Life with Death)).

II. Two First Strikes (This is not baseball)

A. The First First Strike

It was the Petroleum Revolution that ended up being the First Strike in the war against the Earth's Life Systems (The Peak of Sanity - 3).

Many government reports, together with many scientific reports, indicate that if unabated, this environmental first strike has the power to destroy civilization (Government Climate Change Report, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9).

It is already affecting millions of people around the globe, including some in the largest cities, in ways that are changing public planning already:
Climate change is already impacting New York City with rising temperatures
A rising sea floods all coastal cities
and sea levels, which will only worsen as the century continues, according to a report released Tuesday from a panel of scientific experts.

In its 2015 report, the New York City Panel on Climate Change found that the most populous city in the United States is expected to see more frequent heat waves and extreme precipitation events. This is in line with the national and international trends other leading scientific bodies have observed.

Projections [understimates] for sea level rise in New York City are 11 to 21 inches by the 2050s, 18 to 39 inches by the 2080s, and could reach as high as 6 feet by 2100.

You don’t have to look 85 years into the future to see what a sinking world looks like—you only need to look as far as Miami.

Climate scientists have been warning the world about sea level rise for years, pleading with governments to cut back on carbon lest all our coastal cities go the way of Venice. In 2014, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released its fifth Assessment Report, predicting that oceans would rise more than 3 feet by 2100. Those projections make for some alarming visions of the future—cities water-logged, monuments submerged, islands created.

B. The Second First Strike

The other First Strike is the initiation of nuclear war under the recent madness-engendered false belief that a nuclear war can be "won" (Civilization Is Now On Suicide Watch - 2).

The book "Striking First," depicted in the graphic at the top of today's post, as well as in this paper (Striking First, PDF), provide the general concept.

Historically, this was rejected by Bush I but was, not surprisingly, embraced by Bush II (cf. Bush Doctrine, Wolfowitz doctrine).

Surprisingly, to liberals anyway, the doctrine is also embraced by the Obama Administration (Obama Doctrine) with some modifications.

The Russians have picked up on this, and are being urged by their neoCons to implement the first strike dogma too (Russia Doctrine).

III. One Strike And You Are Out (this is not a game)

The ongoing environmental first strike is showing us that we have the power to destroy international cities, international ports, international infrastructure, international food ecosystems, international forest ecosystems, international ocean ecosystems, and the global climate system (we are already way into doing so).

In other words, we are at this moment actively destroying the things that make possible, and support, our global civilization.

Since this post is long enough already, I won't address why the Epigovernment and its government minions want to add another first strike (nuclear attack) to their death-wish list.

That must be left to the psychiatrists for now (but if you must read some psychoanalysis of it, see MOMCOM's Mass Suicide & Murder Pact - 5).

IV. Conclusion

Any individual or group doing this to themselves would be seen as wittingly or unwittingly killing themselves by way of a conscious or unconscious murder-suicide pact (MOMCOM's Mass Suicide & Murder Pact, 2, 3, 4, 5).

Our global culture, as well as our local cultures, can't seem to allow us to grasp that horrid notion.

That is because of the trances our cultures generate for us to grow up in, and to eventually make our own (Choose Your Trances Carefully, 2).

If only the only whores of civilization were simple male and female street walkers doing so because of their survival struggles during personal economic problems.

But, that unfortunately is not the case (The War Whores Ride The War Horse - 2).

Civilization Is Now On Suicide Watch - 6

Civilization is not mortal
I. Introduction

From the first post of this series the quote from historian Arnold J. Toynbee has been resonating.

The quote we focus on is one reason Toynbee eventually fell from practically universal approval.

The same thing happened to Sigmund Freud.

They both had the propensity to call it as they saw it rather than having the propensity to flatter society.

Toynbee said: "...a society does not ever die 'from natural causes', but always dies from suicide or murder --- and nearly always from the former...", while Freud said: "Men have brought their powers of subduing the forces of nature to such a pitch that by using them they could now very easily exterminate one another to the last man. They know this --hence arises a great part of their current unrest, their dejection, their mood of apprehension." (Dredd Blog quotes page).

II. Mortal vs. Immortal

What Toynbee meant, when he said that society does not die of natural causes, is that unlike people, civilizations have an open door to exist in perpetuity (so long as their components are all properly maintained).

For example, Egypt, Greece, and the United States (to name a few) have existed far longer than all of the individuals who began those societies, and will continue on as long as they perpetuate themselves.

Individuals do not fit into the same realm (our minds and bodies are mortal, we can't perpetuate them).

There is, then, this concept and reality of individual mortals living within a potentially immortal culture (Choose Your Trances Carefully, 2).

The book "Being Mortal", pictured at the top of the post,  points out that our culture's medical philosophy and practice treats citizens as if they should be immortals, feverishly trying to keep them alive.

In fact, statistically (according to the author of the book) the most likely time we will have an operation (serious surgery), is in the last week of our lives.

However, the leaders of our civilization ("civilization's doctors"), now that the Doomsday Clock has been set to 3 minutes until lights out, are not doing what medical doctors of individuals do, which is to pull out all stops to keep alive those people who are dying.

To a fault we try to keep individuals alive, while to the contrary, we are quite risky with our society when it comes to official behavior concerning our two greatest threats (e.g. Civilization Is Now On Suicide Watch - 2).

In a nut shell, that is suicidal (e.g. foreign policy @ Russia / Ukraine, cf. How Russia Plans To Retaliate For The Saudi-Driven Collapse In Oil).

III. Inevitable News Coverage

Ed Shultz of MSNBC has good hearing, and he hears the cries of our dying civilization (see video below).

Next week Mr. Shultz is doing coverage, in a 5 part series, of the Climate Change Catastrophe.

A predicament that has covered the eyes of some in government with a fog, with religious dogma, or with a trance of denial of some sort.

For example, the Gulf of Mexico, as well as the shorelines surrounding it (where people victimized by BP of Oil-Qaeda's Deepwater Horizon catastrophe are still being made sick and are still dying both literally and figuratively), do not receive coherent attention.

What main stream presstitutes report, instead, since Oil-Qaeda buys them off (by spending huge sums of advertising dollars to benefit them), is "no problem, nothing to see here folks, move along."

If the gulf was a person, an individual in their last week of life, there would be operations, surgeries, frantic attention, and all out efforts.

But, since the environment is not an individual, it is "only the environment", they want to pull the wool over our eyes, let the environment die, and bury the story.

Which is clearly suicidal.

IV. Conclusion

People from climate scientists, Pentagon Generals, the Pope, and all the way to the President of the U.S., are saying that terrorists are not the greatest danger to civilization, climate change is.

If only the environment was an individual in the last week of their life ... oh wait ... that could be the case.

Civilization Is Now On Suicide Watch - 5

You are not up there, you are down here
If you think the statement that "civilization is now on suicide watch" is unreal, then you are a nutbag, kook, out of touch, hopeamine / hopium addict, not to mention being without a clue.

Scientists @ the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists has moved the doomsday clock to three minutes until midnight.

What three minutes to midnight means is that ~95% of the cushion between lights out for civilization and security for civilization, has been used up, and there is only ~5% remaining (5% is optimistic; it could be less than 1% on an annual scale).

In previous posts in this series (Civilization Is Now On Suicide Watch, 2, 3, 4) I have focused on the creeping danger of nuclear war, together with the screaming danger of climate catastrophe.

According to the atomic scientists, those are the two main reasons the hands on the doomsday clock have moved from 5 minutes to 3 minutes until lights out for human civilization:
In 2015, unchecked climate change, global nuclear weapons modernizations, and outsized nuclear weapons arsenals pose extraordinary and undeniable threats to the continued existence of humanity, and world leaders have failed to act with the speed or on the scale required to protect citizens from potential catastrophe. These failures of political leadership endanger every person on Earth.

The science is clear: Insufficient action to slash worldwide emissions of greenhouse gases can produce global climatic catastrophe. Even a

so-called “limited” nuclear weapons exchange will produce massive casualties and severe effects on the global environment. We also implore the citizens of the world to demand action from their leaders. The threat looms over all of humanity. Humanity needs to respond now, while there is still time.
(Bulletin of Atomic Scientists, emphasis added). When are we going to realize that we are involuntarily part of a Suicide-Murder Pact (MOMCOM's Mass Suicide & Murder Pact, 2, 3, 4, 5) while suffering from a cultural trance not unlike Stockholm Syndrome (Stockholm Syndrome on Steroids?, 2)?

I will not stop warning of these things because I do not want us to commit suicide or to be murdered by Oil-Qaeda.

Those not part of the solution state of mind are part of the murder and suicide state of mind.

If possible, let's stop Oil-Qaeda in their tracks.

Extinction Is Not For The Sane At Heart - 2

Today I want to revisit a post from today's date in 2009.

It shows that some of us have been observing suicidal behavior on the part of industrial civilization for several years now.

The idea has been expressed by famous people in modern times, such as “The end of the human race will be that it will eventually die of civilization.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Need I mention that some of the most renowned historians have pointed out that it is the rule, not the exception, that societies commit suicide:
"In other words, a society does not ever die 'from natural causes', but always dies from suicide or murder --- and nearly always from the former, as this chapter has shown." - A Study of History, by Arnold J. Toynbee
(Dredd Blog Quotes Page). Those who do not flatter society fall from favor, but honesty is better than favor.

Anyway, here is the post from today's date in 2009:

Nations become suicidal sometimes when enough people lose a grasp on reality to begin to act like an individual person does when that individual threatens to jump off the bridge.

Take NAZI Germany in the late 1930's as an example. Thankfully Germany fully recovered.

We have a growing problem of suicidal thinking in the United States.

People who are primarily not college graduates, or otherwise educated about ecology and environment, are buying into a notion that humanity can do no permanent or serious damage to the environment, in terms of changing the climate.

Some Russian hackers stole emails from a climate research facility which they interpreted as proof of a vast global conspiracy to deceive the world about climate change.

A NASA scientist was interviewed to get his take on the situation:
Last week, someone leaked e-mails obtained by hacking into the server at the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia. Activists who have long denied the reality of climate change ... say they show that climatologists have engaged in a grand conspiracy to manufacture a case that global warming is occurring due to human activities. Do the hacked e-mails undermine the case for anthropogenic climate change?

No, they have no effect on the science. The evidence for human-made climate change is overwhelming.
(Newsweek [they "lost" it, so here is the Wayback Machine version]). The Piltdown man scientific fraud, a clear case of scientific fraud, did not mean that all evidence for human evolution was thereby made fraudulent. The hacked email controversy is not a clear case, but even if it was it would not prove the case alleged by the climate change deniers.

It is essential that we learn the tenets of Ecocosmology so that our understanding is expanded to a cosmic understanding.

That is, a broader understanding of what humanity must do, including taking care of the earth, in order to avoid extinction of the human species.
