Watching The Arctic Die - 7

Fig. 1 The Arctic is disintegrating

This series has pointed out that the polar vortex (circular atmospheric gyre) has been disrupted/damaged by global warming.

The Arctic region is warming up 4 times more than lower latitudes (Watching The Arctic Die, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6).

A recent paper in Nature revisits the phenomenon:

"The Arctic cryosphere is an integral part of the Earth’s climate system that has recently undergone unprecedented changes over the observational record including melting sea ice and diminishing spring snow cover. Since the mid-1990s the region has exhibited an amplified signal of global warming (a.k.a. amplified or accelerated Arctic warming; AAW). It is particularly robust during fall and winter (e.g., Dai et al.; Cohen et al.), when it is observed to be two to four times greater in the Arctic relative to the rest of the globe."

(Anomalous Arctic warming linked with severe winter weather in Northern Hemisphere continents). Climate deniers think that a new ice ages in underway, which is a pop trance (Choose Your Trances Carefully, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8).

The future as the Arctic looses its ice, is less severe cold incursions but more severe heat incursions.
