The Bleep Goes On - Land Ho!

We now have a new word for ourselves; it is "voodoo environmentalism".

No more do we have to wait for the bushies to think up a voodoo thingy like "voodoo economics".

The voodoo oil spill near the Mississippi delta "dead zone" in the Gulf of Mexico has now reached the shore.

I did a little digging over at the all things environmental propaganda site, paid for by the taxpayers, and came across some of the language that has not been scrubbed yet:
On March 31, 2010, the President and the Secretary announced the Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Strategy as part of President Obama’s comprehensive energy plan for the country. The Department is pursuing a balanced, science-based strategy for exploring and developing oil and gas resources on the Outer Continental Shelf.

The strategy will guide the current 2007-2012 offshore oil and gas leasing program, which is being revised under the Court’s order that one facet of the section 18 analysis was flawed, as well as the new 2012-2017 program that will supersede the 2010-2015 Draft Proposed Program (DPP) issued by the prior Administration.
(Federal Minerals Management Service, emphasis added). So basically the only reason the Obama Administration is not doing exactly what Bush II wanted to do is because a court ordered them not to?

According to that site, it was March 31 when they declared "a balanced, science-based strategy"; which lasted all of three weeks until the Deepwater Horizon exploded, then sank a day or so later, to pollute the world like only an Exxon Valdez oil queen could do.

The Obama Administration ploughed into the fog of offshore drilling at full speed, even though disasters are foreseeable, just like it ploughed into the fog of bailouts at full speed.

Once one enters into the fog, a whole world of apologies, cover ups, and rationales commence, beginning with "it was not foreseeable", "no one could see this coming" (what about the Earth Day protesters?).

Posts on this blog have shown that these events were foreseeable: Iraq war debacle, the Afghanistan mess and pull-out fantasy, the decline of U.S. reputation in the world, the financial crisis, and this environmental disaster, all were foreseeable.

But when an administration will not consider sound foreign or domestic policy, it is bound to blunder into situations where that administration's best friend is propaganda.

Yes, see through propaganda that damages a nation.

UPDATE: Here is a link to Daily Kos where some proof of the brain damage that has been done to the right wingnuts is being discussed.

UPDATE 2: The U.S. government has banned offshore drilling, to some extent, until they find out what caused the ongoing catastrophe (clue: you caused it by poo pooing the warnings year after year ... remember those "tired arguments" you said we are making Obama?).

  1. Well...yeah...but...he speaks so good you just WANT to believe him. And in the end, isn't that what you REALLY want in a politician? The ability to lie straight to your face and make you WANT TO believe him/her, even though you just KNOW they're lieing?

The future repeats itself first as tragedy and then as farce.

This one definitely falls into the latter category.

  2. Facts should determine politics; politics should not determine facts.

Facts are the molecules of reality, and words are the atoms of the molecules of reality.

The disingenuous politicians seem to study how to obfuscate facts instead of listening to those facts.

The climate change deniers are the drill baby drillers and should not be listened to.

When will the left receive the honor it is due for wanting a clean environment and lasting peace & prosperity in place of lasting war & economic demise in war's wake?

  3. Clean environments and peace and prosperity don't generate sufficient profits for the squid people.

Keep in mind, we're living in an economy where even the cleanup activity for this mess will generate significant and persisting economic activity, and thus, be judged by somebody as "good."

Of course the fisheries will be damaged for awhile, but we'll throw some more borrowed federal money (deficits don't matter!) at the people put out of work and call it all good. Let's face it, if you're fishing(!) for a living you don't matter much anyway.

  4. Rush Limbaugh has blamed the oil spill on environmental wackos.

  5. Randy,

Yesterday disaffected and I contemplated that happening, except we were expecting al Qaeda to be blamed for it if there were any Muslims on board.

  6. Environmentalists, Islamic terrorists, flaming liberals... Aren't they all pretty much the same thing?

  7. disaffected,

Yes I suppose "allie samie" fragments the likes of those who cannot tell the difference or sameness of anything outside the approved super republican self righteousness list of truthiness.

Governor Crist just found that out.

  8. Ol' Charlie showed some stones bucking the Wing Nuttiers like that. It'll be interesting to see how comes out of it running as an Indy.

In the long run, I don't know which will be most interesting and which I'd like to see more: the Tea Baggers winning big and actually having to begin making some sense to govern, or watching them go down in flaming defeat, and waiting to see if violent revolution doesn't shortly follow.

I'm getting old anyway, so I don't really give a rat's ass either way; but the drama, ahh the drama! This is all gonna make for some excellent reality TV.

  9. disaffected,

I keep getting a picture of the republican party (that is portrayed in MOMCOM's boob tube realm) which appears to be hard neoCon fascist.

Anyone who tries to be humane or civil is purged, but folk like Terd Blossom The Great are worshipped.

The terd god seems to have run away with their minds and hearts ...
