Clash of the Titans of Export

Unobtainium
I pointed out a while back that just one state of The United States of Europe was a larger exporter than the U.S. or China.

Also I pointed out that the pacific was the place to watch in terms of economic power.

There is a report today which indicates that China overtook Germany as the number one exporter, but, lest the record become too contorted, let us not forget that The United States of Europe is composed of 26 nations; Germany being only one of them.

Nevertheless, this shows that Europe was hurt more by the U.S. financial debacle than China was. Nevertheless, the story here today for us is that the U.S. remains third.

The conservative decade of Bush II with all its free market rhetoric and economic self righteousness brought us from first to third in a heart beat, relatively speaking.

The conservatives are incompetent at economy and governance. They talk like con men, being all neoCon and all. Mavericky and rogue is just another silly, stupid, and dangerous fantasy. Exporting war impoverishes the many while concentrating booty with a few families.

The other part of the story is that neither Europe nor China have been at war on two fronts for a decade. The U.S. has.

Why isn't war and bad economy linked together in the military media oil complex version of reality?

The next post in this series is here.

Depends on your point of view I guess. If you're a member of the government's favored social class, life is just fine these days (see also rumors of our financial "recovery," which Larry Summers at least, feels has already occurred.) If you're not...Well, if you're young and reasonably healthy at least, the military's always looking for a few good "men(women)" to feed the beast.

By the way, although Bush II damn well got us here, NoBama I damn sure shows no sign of delivering any "change we can believe in" anytime soon. Politics has become vaudeville, meant solely to distract, as our government has long since been sold to the highest bidders. We can take some small comfort that they'll run the thing into the ground soon enough, then hopefully we'll grow the collective stones to either take it back or make different arrangements. I'm betting on the latter.

  2. disaffected,

    Agreed.

The mind meld ("bipartisanship") has produced only chump change thus far, which equates to "lets screw things up together, yeah yeah yeah".

  3. Dredd,

And meanwhile, what was the MSM preoccupied with all day? Why none other than Harry Reid's (a no-account twit, in any case) pseudo-racist comments, made many months ago off the record (depending on whose account you believe), and only now revealed in a book about Obama's (increasingly, a no-account twit as well, IMO at least) election, many months after the fact. Ho-hum. And yet, amazingly, the world, by any objective measure, seemed hardly to notice.

We've got some dizzying large problems confronting us in this country that literally get larger by the day. And yet, the narcissistic media culture that pervades over our "popular" culture, now pervades over our "political" culture as well (quotes meant only to imply that a distinction between the two terms might once have existed).

Here's the phrase that I would like to hear coming from the President's mouth in his upcoming State of the Union address if I were to TRULY believe that things were getting better and that someone (ANYONE!) wasn't asleep at the switch: "The state of the union is, smoke and mirrors 24/7, with more of the same virtually guaranteed for the foreseeable future." Now THAT'S change I can BELIEVE IN!
