SLF Near Glacier Bay, Alaska |
He talked about sea level rise (SLR) but he did not talk about sea level fall (SLF).
Probably because his advisers, like most of us until recently, were not aware of it.
I have been writing about it lately (e.g. The Gravity of Sea Level Change).
And as I explained recently, I am developing software to detect sea level change (SLC) around the globe, then contemplate what caused it.
The graph at the top of the page is a product of that software, still in the early stages of development, and involves only one tidal gauge in the "ak" zone which has 59 such tidal gauges.
It proves the concept that the waters around Alaska will drop as the glaciers there melt.
That is exactly what is happening.
The difference in sea level varies as much as 20 ft. comparing some locations in Malaysia to some locations in the Florida Keys.
I don't mean long ago compared to now, no, I mean as I type these words, and as you read them.
Like the president said, "With climate change, there is such a thing as too late."
I am excited about the new way to look at SLC, not leaving out either SLF or SLR.
Hasta luego.
The next post in this series is here.
