HTF ("high tide flooding") |
This Dredd Blog series deals with some realities that seem like they can't be true, even though they are solid science.
This series also deals with some popular hoaxes as well.
For example, the reality that sea level is falling and it is also rising, depending on how far one is from one of the large Cryosphere locations (for example: Greenland, Antarctica, Glacier Bay Alaska, or "the third pole" a.k.a. Himilayas).
The video below featuring Dr. Jerry Mitrovica has been shown many times on Dredd Blog, because it dispenses with one of the main sea level change hoaxes, which is nicknamed "The Bathtub Model".
II. Appendix Details
The appendix to today's post (Appendix PSMSL SLC) is a table of PSMSL tide gauge stations from around the world that show both sea level change components, i.e. rise (SLR) and fall (SLF).
The "change" values (rise/fall measurements at tide gauge stations) are in millimeters (mm).I changed the data to comply with Dr. Mitrovica's suggestion that only tide gauge stations with at least thirty years of data should be used (see video below).
I also sorted the results based upon the change in sea level so that it runs from lowest change to highest change.
And finally, I used only tide gauge sites that contributed their latest data no earlier than the year 2000.
III. Closing Comments
For those interested in a deeper investigation into tide gauge station locations around the globe, the "Station" column on the table in the appendix links to the PSMSL data for that tide gauge station (google-earth like navigation features, etc.).
