Oilah Akbar! Oilah Akbar! - 4

The Church Steeple
When one begins to contemplate one of the sayings of Bush II, which was that "America is addicted to oil", it seems to eventually lead to the notion that it is more than a mere addiction.

Upon further reflection one begins to notice that it is more like a religion with many followers.

With that in mind note that historically many writers have associated addiction to drugs with religion.

The phrase "This opium you feed your people" appeared in 1797 in Marquis de Sade's text L'Histoire de Juliette and Novalis's "[R]eligion acts merely as an opiate" around the same time. The full quote from Karl Marx is: "Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people" (Wikipedia, Opium of the people, emphasis added).

There is little wonder, then, that on this date in 2009 a Dredd Blog post began to express that notion:

The religion of the oil barons is not unlike the radicals who use the Islamic faith as a front to cover their demonic impulses.

Some of the oil barons are going through criminal trials these daze for their uncontrollable terrorist impulses.

That quaint notion of accountability for torture in U.S. jurisdictions will not happen it appears.

That is because those who did the torture call all the shots here and pull strings from the shadows it seems to many.

What we call "light" here evidently comes from the business end of a derrick.

Since then (5/22/09), upon further reflection other metaphors and epitomes have been expressed to link addiction, religion, and fossil fuels together:

The Virgin MOMCOM

Oil-Qaeda: The Deadliest Parasite Of Civilization

Oil-Qaeda: The Indictment

There is a long list of posts concerning the subject on the Series Post Tab (at the top of any Dredd Blog page) under the headings: "MOMCOM", "OIL", and "OIL-QAEDA."

The previous post in this series is here.
