I. It Only Takes A Minority

The charges against our culture's typical national hero ("one who served in the military") for allegedly harboring demented assassination plots against "the enemies of duh people" so far are met with crickets in the right wing arena.

It is their opinion, it would seem, that concrete is the best brain component  (The Shapeshifters of Bullshitistan, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17).

This is all true according to the prescient observations of an astute observer who was fully woke:

"It is forbidden to kill therefore all murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets."

(Voltaire). This is not all that Voltaire had to say:

"Voltaire was a versatile and prolific writer, producing works in almost every literary form, including plays, poems, novels, essays and historical and scientific works. He wrote more than 20,000 letters and more than 2,000 books and pamphlets. He was an outspoken advocate of civil liberties, despite the risk this placed him in under the strict censorship laws of the time. As a satirical polemicist, he frequently made use of his works to criticize intolerance, religious dogma and the ... institutions of his day."

The gist of it is that he struggled against the despotic minority of his day, noting in his own words that you would not find them in the ghettos, rather, you would find them in the White House, the Congress, the Judiciary, the Military, the Police Forces, the Money Media, and other harbors of power (About Toxins Of Power).

In the previous posts of this series it was pointed out that "the tyranny of a despotic minority" is one of the dynamics that brought down twenty-six previous civilizations (How To Identify The Despotic Minority).

II. Denial Is Not Intellect

The minority in this sense is a number that is smaller than the number associated with the majority.

There are many such numbers, because there are many minorities, but the despotic minority is identified by its cruelty ("tyranny"), and its chosen location within the society it is bringing down.

By "chosen location" I mean the locations identified above: "the White House, the Congress, the Judiciary, the Military, the Police Forces, the Money Media, and other harbors of power".

I say that because the despotic minority is a minority that has surreptitiously learned how to wiggle and slime into positions of power to the point of being able to wield more power than the majority.

For a recent example, have you noticed the metamorphosis that is taking place in the U.S. Senate and the White House?

It is the devolution into the despotic minority.

The source of that disintegration has been detected by modern cognitive science:

III. Some Other Effects

The two main existential threats to current civilization were discussed in the text of yesterday's post and a video presented in that post (Despotic Minority Does Time Travel - 2).

The despotic minority operatives (C Level Info, ) attempt to cover up those threats while the majority tries to reveal the threats (Time to Panic, The Real Culprit Behind Trump's Border Emergency? Climate Change).

Meanwhile "welfare" and "socialism" are words that have been poisoned by the despotic minority as it degenerates further and further into the abyss of cruelty.

This is something that is antithetical to the direction our founders struggled to go in:

"The Declaration of Independence, setting forth the fundamental objections of the American colonies to English rule, included the statement that the British King 'had refused his assent to laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good' and, in recognition of this primary obligation of the state, the Continental Congress incorporated into the Articles of Confederation two sections containing the words 'general welfare'"

(Fordham Law Review, emphasis added). You know that "welfare" has been made dirty by corporate media presstitutes, and so has "socialism" which until that took place meant the same thing as "the public good":

General Welfare: "The concern of the government for the health, peace, morality, and safety of its citizens." - The Free Legal Dictionary

"The grant of power to 'provide . . . for the general welfare' raises a two-fold question: how may Congress provide for 'the general welfare' and what is 'the general welfare' that it is authorized to promote? The first half of this question was answered by Thomas Jefferson in his opinion on the Bank as follows: '[T]he laying of taxes is the power, and the general welfare the purpose for which the power is to be exercised. They [Congress] are not to lay taxes ad libitum for any purpose they please; but only to pay the debts or provide for the welfare of the Union. (emphasis added). The despotic minority is composed of elements of "the 1%" who hide down in the "0.1%" area of the 1% and who do not care about anything but their welfare (The Homeland: Big Brother Plutonomy - 7).

IV. Closing Comments

It is a sad but also a dangerous time when the majority is being "handled" by the despots who are "only" a minority ... but wield more power than the majority.

The recent loss by the despotic minority of the House of Representatives is an example of resistance.

That resistance must spread to the senate and administration if the decline is to be thwarted and a return to the freedoms required is to take place.

But even that is not enough.

It must thereafter be vigorously perpetuated more so than ever before.

I. Background

This series is about a metamorphosis most likely caused by proton tunneling, and about other aspects of the Bob Dylan lyric "the circus is in town" (Desolation Row).

It has long been believed that behavior is genetic, however, that belief is becoming watered down as we learn more about genes:

 cannot --in spite of all precautions-- be 100% stable. Which led to the suspicion that the genieology of the current shapeshifters of Bullshistan may be at work in the current incarnation of "the circus is in town."

A genieology that has led to the revelation of alternate facts, alternate highway 61, alternate politics, alternate misunderestimations, alternate enemies, alternate testimony, and alternate explanations.

II. A Rising Scar

This post is about the advent of Moochifer ("Mooch" for short) and the advent of alternate economics:

Moochifer said over and over in his first Whut House press conference that he loves The Don very bigly (Heavy).

There is every indication that Moochifer will also get along well with Ryan Rand ("The First Pence"), because they both have the same patron saint (Ayn Rand: Patron Saint of The Plutocracy - 3).

IV. Conclusion

This series began about four years ago as a critique of one of the many illegitimate wars civilization makes on itself.

This is not about the loser war on legit drugs that Big Pharma does not like, or the oil wars incessantly fought for a century, and still going strong.

Nor is it about the nuclear war that began at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which is now in hiatus, but still anxious to get started again.

Nor is it about the global war on the Earth, which now has the damaged climate system staggering to stay off its knees, as it raises ocean levels and endangers civilization.

This is a post about the war on the most populous, yet the tiniest life forms that we rely on for our very lives:

As they look beyond the genome ... researchers are ... awakening to the fact that some 90 percent of the protein-encoding cells in our body are microbes. We evolved with them in a symbiotic relationship, which raises the question of just who is occupying whom.

Altogether ... 99 percent of the functional genes in the body are microbial.

The microbes cohabitating our body outnumber human cells by a factor of 10, making us actually “superorganisms” that use our own genetic repertoire as well as those of our microbial symbionts, says Julie Segre, who works on the Human Microbiome Project at the National Human Genome Research Institute, in Bethesda, Md. We just happen to look human because our human cells are much larger than bacterial cells ... no matter how you look at it, it’s high time we acknowledge that part of being human is being microbial.

Specifically, the fetish-like overuse of antibiotics as a be all cure all for just about anything and everything, which said overuse is going to reach a peak, to then fit into the realm talked about in the book "The Peak of Everything":

The arms race between humanity and disease-causing bacteria is drawing to a close—and the bacteria are winning. The latest evidence: gonorrhea is becoming resistant to all standard antibiotic treatment ... If it seems to you that the drumbeat of bad news with respect to antibiotic resistance has become louder and more insistent in the past few years, you would be right ... Researchers reported in January that they had for the first time collected samples of E. coli bacteria from the Antarctic with particularly dangerous drug-resistance genes.

(Scientific American). This is the result of the medical system in America willfully ignoring years of warnings, much like the congress, presidents, and big business having ignored of years of warnings about global warming dangers.

It is quite possible that we destroy the good bacteria, a.k.a., microbes, when "we", i.e., Dr. Strangelove,  strafe and cluster bomb our bodies to rid ourselves of one pathogen.

The war on non-official Big Pharma drugs failed, and so has the war on cellular life:

Worse still, they found, the gene that allowed the E. coli to withstand the potent drug can easily jump to other bacterial species—including nasties like salmonella—and is 'likely' to go global. The researchers didn't mince words: 'All the key players are now in place to make the post-antibiotic world a reality,' one of them told the BBC.

So, uh-oh: Researchers at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland have just found colistin-resistant E. coli in a person here in the United State. In response to the bad news from China, the Walter Reed crew had just begun in early May to screen all the E. coli samples that came through the facility's medical-testing lab for the presence of that highly mobile colistin-resistant gene. It didn't take them long to find a positive test, which they reported Thursday in the journal Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy. The discovery 'heralds the emergence of truly pan-drug resistant bacteria,' they wrote." - (Mother Jones)

"A mutant strain of E. coli, resistant to even the toughest antibiotics, has been found in the United States, federal health officials said Thursday.

The bacteria, discovered last month in a 49-year-old Pennsylvania woman with a urinary tract infection, contains a gene known as mcr-1, making it resistant even to colistin, a decades-old antibiotic that has increasingly been used as a treatment of last resort against dangerous superbugs." - (Huffington Post).

The Evolution and Extinction of Affordable Insurance

I. Background

The word "catastrophe" has both individual or local scope as well as having widespread scope: "any misfortune, mishap, or failure; fiasco; a sudden and widespread disaster" - (Dictionary).

The Damaged Global Climate System is a catastrophe (The Damaged Global Climate System, 2, 3, 4, 5).

A global catastrophe that is giving rise to endless offspring: local weather catastrophes (All Weather Is Local - 2).

The individual or family who loses all their material goods they have, from clothing, cars, home, or worse -their lives, suffers a catastrophe.

So do those engulfed in a widespread destruction brought on by a Katrina or a Sandy.

II. Traditional Insurance Remedy

Civilization has developed a technique we call "insurance" that can mitigate the impact on those who suffer a personal catastrophe, and who have insurance:

Benjamin Franklin founded America’s oldest, continuously active insurance company in 1752. Franklin and several prominent business associates established the Philadelphia Contributorship for the Insurance of Houses from Loss by Fire. The Contributorship, as is now its common reference, was a proactive insurance carrier refusing to provide coverage to houses and other structures that were not constructed according to strict building standards. During the British occupation of Philadelphia in 1777, the Contributorship hired a chimney sweep to maintain the chimneys of insured houses that were still occupied by the insureds.

Lloyd’s of London had its start in a coffee shop. Although the first informal gatherings of shippers and investors around 1688 were not intended to produce an insurance mechanism, Edward Lloyd’s coffeehouse on London’s Tower Street witnessed the first days of what was to become the world’s best known insurance underwriting society. Financial protection contracts initially emanating from Lloyd’s coffeehouse were dedicated to ships and their cargo.

(Insurance Journal, emphasis added). The embryonic intentions of the concept of insurance was based on a community "good Samaritan" spirit of "let's all chip in a little to help a lot, those in great need and distress."

The good intention of the insurance concept is not immune from financial catastrophe itself:

The theoretical foundation of ruin theory, known as the Cramér–Lundberg model (or classical compound-Poisson risk model, classical risk process or Poisson risk process) was introduced in 1903 by the Swedish actuary Filip Lundberg.Lundberg's work was republished in the 1930s by Harald Cramér.

The model describes an insurance company who experiences two opposing cash flows: incoming cash premiums and outgoing claims. Premiums arrive a constant rate c > 0 from customers and claims arrive according to a Poisson process with intensity λ and are independent and identically distributed non-negative random variables with distribution F and mean μ (they form a compound Poisson process) ... The central object of the model is to investigate the probability that the insurer's surplus level eventually falls below zero (making the firm bankrupt).

(Ruin Theory, emphasis added). Like any business or household for that matter, income and outgo must at least be equal for the venture to be economically viable.

In an undamaged climate system that is plausible, but as The Damaged Global Climate System overpopulates the globe with catastrophes, the picture gets more and more iffy.

This is not local to any one country or company, so a more comprehensive remedy was developed.

III. The 'Russian Doll' Layers Around Insurance

Thus, there are international "reinsurance companies" that provide insurance to insurance companies:

Munich Re continuously adjusts its business model to new risks based on the latest scientific findings on climate change.

Climate change is changing our world for ever. Only if we manage to anticipate these changes appropriately, and align our business model correctly to the changing world around us, will we be able to deal effectively with the risks from climate change ...

Vision

For that reason, we do not want to concern ourselves solely with risks that are already well known today. "They lose sleep every time it rains really hard because they know they're going to get flooded basements," says Jason Thistlethwaite, a University of Waterloo professor who studies the insurance industry, about people in the business.

Thistlethwaite says the same thing happened when the news of the damage in Fort McMurray, Alta., came through, "as soon as they heard that 1,600 structures number."

With all those buildings burned, what the insurance industry expects to be Canada's most costly natural disaster is going to affect Canadians, and not just in higher rates.

(CBC). These threats are real and present dangers in more ways than one:

"The surge that's scheduled to hit the American coastline Wednesday isn't coming from a hurricane, but it could still leave a feeling of helplessness in its wake.

Flood insurance rates are set to skyrocket when a new bill goes into effect on April 1. Known as the Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act of 2014 (HFIAA), it's going to drive the prices of flood insurance plans through the roof for residents of all U.S. coastlines.

How much could they increase? In some areas where flood maps show maximum risk, premiums that were previously $500 could be raised to as much as $20,000 a year or more, according to estimates released in 2013.

"My insurance is more than my mortgage," said Nancy Loft-Powers, a resident of Deerfield Beach, Florida, who told the Washington Post that her premium will be raised from the $7,500 she already pays annually. "I live by the beach in an old neighborhood. I pay [too much] insurance for a crap house that’s not great." (Flood Insurance Rates To Increase, emphasis added)

IV. The Final Russian Doll Is The Taxpayer

One day climate change deniers will wonder why they have to pay for something that is merely a hoax: "the flood-insurance program that went into the red paying flood claims is deep in debt to a U.S. treasury funded by taxpayers" (last quote Section III, emphasis added).

Perhaps they will become open to making a Russian Doll out of those causing this "hoax" which is taxing their wallet or purse (Oilfluenza, Affluenza, and Disgorgement).

V. It Will Get Worse

Some scientists think that the relocation of ice sheets into the oceans and the subsequent relocation of the ice sheet melt water to new locations around the world can become a trigger for some earthquakes and volcano eruptions (Is A New Age Of Pressure Upon Us?, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8).

Currently 40 volcanoes are erupting (Volcanoes Erupting).

The earthquakes can cause tsunamis which lead to insurance hell (Fukushima fuel cores have ‘molten-through’ containment vessels — Location of molten fuels is unknown).

A hell which has to be blamed on God in cases where "an act of God" is not included in insurance policies (Act of God) because it is "Deigenic climate change" (Weekend Rebel Science Excursion - 39).

In any event, the direction this is headed is toward the extinction of insurance as we know it; simply because it can overwhelm remedies that were designed in a past age which had an undamaged global climate system (Groundhog Day & The Climate of Fear).

VI. Conclusion

We simply have to leave Oil-Qaeda's drugs in the ground (Hypersensitive Exxon bans Guardian from AGM).

But we won't (The Extinction of Robust Sea Ports - 6).

We have overdosed on hopium as a treatment for Oilfluenza.

And here we are lost in space even with a host of visionaries in our social genealogy.

We have a president who helped destroy the people of a nation because his popularity was at stake (MOMCOM And The Sins of Libya, 2, 3).

He followed in the footsteps of the madman president that preceded him, which is not all that exceptional or unique.

And now we have more madmen and women than usual clamouring for their chance to proceed with the mechanisms of depraved heart murder (Oil-Qaeda & MOMCOM Conspire To Commit Depraved-Heart Murder, 2, 3).

They all want to be pilots (The Elections of Pontius Pilots, 2, 3, 4, 5) or perhaps co-pilots (Inside Job and/or Conspiracy?).

Either way, power wannabes are droning on to the sounds of a dull, primitive roar.

After all, the mass murder of the people on this planet is a big business that is not well understood (You Are Here).

The heroes warriors of this predicament have also evolved to the wrong, while calling it evolution toward the right:

In 1982, historian Joseph Ellis summed up such sentiments in a prophetic passage in an essay titled “Learning Military Lessons from Vietnam” (from the book Men at War):

“[V]irtually all studies of the all-volunteer army have indicated that it is likely to be less representative of and responsive to popular opinion, more expensive, more jealous of its own prerogatives, more xenophobic -- in other words, more likely to repeat some of the most grievous mistakes of Vietnam … Perhaps the most worrisome feature of the all-volunteer army is that it encourages soldiers to insulate themselves from civilian society and allows them to cling tenaciously to outmoded visions of the profession of arms. It certainly puts an increased burden of responsibility on civilian officials to impose restraints on military operations, restraints which the soldiers will surely perceive as unjustified.”

Ellis wrote this more than 30 years ago -- before Desert Storm, the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, or the launching of the War on Terror. These wars (and other U.S. military interventions of the last decades) have provided vivid evidence that civilian officials have felt emboldened in wielding a military freed from the constraints of the old citizen army. Indeed, it says something of our twenty-first-century moment that military officers have from time to time felt the need to restrain civilian officials rather than vice versa.

But not high enough to validate the hopium of the Stockholm Syndrome culture (Epigovernment: The New Model, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11).

Thus, the rock music, poetry, and high rates of suicide (Civilization Is Now On Suicide Watch, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8).

The New Paradigm: The Physical Universe Is Mostly Machine - 3

Putting a face on machine mutation

This series is about molecular machines (see the first post The New Paradigm: The Physical Universe Is Mostly Machine for a list of Dredd Blog posts about it going back to 2009).

With all the Dredd Blog posts about molecular machines over the years, I am pleased to see it now go mainstream.

The science that we are composed mostly of molecular machines such as RNA, ribosomes, and DNA, can't be held back any longer I suppose.

So, The New Your Review of Books indicates:

Today, driven by ongoing technological innovations, the exploration of the “nanoverse,” as the realm of the minuscule is often termed, continues to gather pace. One of the field’s greatest pioneers is Paul Falkowski, a biological oceanographer who has spent much of his scientific career working at the intersection of physics, chemistry, and biology. His book Life’s Engines: How Microbes Made Earth Habitable focuses on one of the most astonishing discoveries of the twentieth century—that our cells are comprised of a series of highly sophisticated “little engines” or nanomachines that carry out life’s vital functions. It is a work full of surprises, arguing for example that all of life’s most important innovations were in existence by around 3.5 billion years ago—less than a billion years after Earth formed, and a period at which our planet was largely hostile to living things. How such mind-bending complexity could have evolved at such an early stage, and in such a hostile environment, has forced a fundamental reconsideration of the origins of life itself.

[The ribosome] is an entity so tiny that even with an electron microscope, it is hard to see it. As many as 400 million ribosomes could fit in a single period at the end of a sentence printed in The New York Review. Only with the advent of synchrotrons—machines that accelerate the movements of particles, and can be used to create very powerful X-rays—have its workings been revealed. Ribosomes use the instructions embedded in our genetic code to make complex proteins such as those found in our muscles and other organs. The manufacture of these proteins is not a straightforward process. The ribosomes have no direct contact with our DNA, so must act by reading messenger RNA, molecules that convey genetic information from the DNA. Ribosomes consist of two major complexes that work like a pair of gears: they move over the RNA, and attach amino acids to the emerging protein.

All ribosomes—whether in the most humble bacteria or in human bodies—operate at the same rate, adding just ten to twenty amino acids per second to the growing protein string. And so are our bodies built up by tiny mechanistic operations, one protein at a time, until that stupendous entity we call a human being is complete. All living things possess ribosomes, so these complex micromachines must have existed in the common ancestor of all life. Perhaps their development marks the spark of life itself. But just when they first evolved, and how they came into being, remain two of the great mysteries of science.

(How You Consist of Trillions of Tiny Machines, emphasis added). Those "mysteries of science" are still "mysterious" because we can't yet grasp that the facts of abiology are not the facts of biology.

Abiology is the absence of biology, having evolved billions of years prior to biological life forms coming into existence (e.g. cosmology).

The trance some scientists harbor, or at least the group trance that some science writers are in, is illustrated by this sentence in the piece I just quoted from:

"One of the most ancient of ... biological machines is the ribosome..."

(ibid, emphasis added). No, Tim Flannery (author of the piece) there is no such thing as a "biological machine," so that verbiage is more bad nomenclature (Good Nomenclature: A Matter of Life and Death).

Machines are all abiotic, thus, molecular machines, being machines, are abiotic, not biotic.

There is no more reason to call a ribosome "biological" than there is to call your lawn mower "biological."

Both are used by biological entities, but that does not change their abiotic machine nature (a lawnmower does not become biological merely because it is used by a biological entity).

This same confusion about what is "bio" (life) and what is "abio" (non-life) has been perpetuated about viruses for a century:

For about 100 years, the scientific community has repeatedly changed its collective mind over what viruses are. First seen as poisons, then as life-forms, then biological chemicals, viruses today are thought of as being in a gray area between living and nonliving: they cannot replicate on their own but can do so in truly living cells and can also affect the behavior of their hosts profoundly. The categorization of viruses as nonliving during much of the modern era of biological science has had an unintended consequence: it has led most researchers to ignore viruses in the study of evolution. Finally, however, scientists are beginning to appreciate viruses as fundamental players in the history of life.

I also hypothesized that viruses are candidates for being the first abiotic molecular machine entities to morph or evolve into cyborgs, i.e., the first to become composed of both abiotic and biotic components (compare The Uncertain Gene - 9 with On the Origin of the Genes of Viruses - 2).

Thus, I have also advocated for a discipline called "Abiology 101," so that the confusion and cacophony about these two opposite realms can begin to go away:

The subtitle of today's post could be "The Abiology Rebellion."

That is because, in today's post, I am going to talk about Abiology, a subject that is not yet in some of our parent's dictionaries.

Abiology is an area of science that is like Rodney "I don't get no respect" Dangerfield when it comes to the entirety of evolution.

Regular readers know that in various and sundry posts on the Dredd Blog System we have bemoaned the dearth of research within evolutionary circles concerning the subject of abiotic evolution or Abiology.

I have even done so to the point that I now encourage more scientific textbooks with the title "Abiology 101" in addition to and in contrast with "Biology 101" (see e.g. Did Abiotic Intelligence Precede Biotic Intelligence?, Putting A Face On Machine Mutation - 3).

A fair definition of Biology is:

... the science of life or living matter in all its forms and phenomena, especially with reference to origin, growth, reproduction, structure, and behavior.

(Dictionary, emphasis added). A fair definition of Abiology, then, ought to be:

... the science of non-life or non-living matter in all its forms and phenomena, especially with reference to origin, growth, reproduction, structure, and behavior.

(Weekend Rebel Science Excursion - 27). I have also done two series which look closely at the evolutionary "abio" events that took place billions of years prior to the advent of carbon based "bio" (life).

Those two series are: On the Origin of the Genes of Viruses, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and The Uncertain Gene, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11.

The first proto-ribosomes (which I call robosomes in On the Origin of the Genes of Viruses - 6) were abiotic molecular replication machines prior to the existence of biological life.

My guess is that one of the next areas of discovery to make it to Mainstreamville will be to realize that wireless communication is done by molecular machines, and also by biological entities using those molecular machines.

Whether done by exclusively abiotic dynamics or by cyborgs (symbiotic combos of both abiotic and biotic entities), it is a reality:

It is well accepted that all objects, whether living or nonliving, are continuously generating electromagnetic fields (EMFs) due to the thermal agitation of their particles that possess charges. Interest in EMFs as alternative forms of cell-to-cell communication can be traced back to at least the second decade of the 20th century. Interactions between EMFs and biosystems have been intensively studied for over a century and a quantitative understanding of many interaction mechanisms exists, There is much evidence that biological processes can be induced or modulated by induction of light of characteristic frequencies.

Recently, distant interactions between mammalian cells through EMF coupling have been shown. Distant (non-chemical) interaction in biosystems is not limited to interactions at the cellular level. Biosystem interaction has been reported at the level of plants, insects and other biosystems.

In 1997 Cosic proposed that there is a resonant interaction between macromolecules that plays an essential role in their bioactivity. The key point of Cosic's finding is the assignment of specific spectral electromagnetic (EM) characteristics of proteins to their specific biological function. Proteins with common biological functionality are known to share one significant peak, called the Consensus Frequency, which is acknowledged to represent the region responsible for the biological functionality. Bio-molecules with the same biological characteristics recognize and bio-attach to themselves when their valence electrons oscillate and then reverberate in an electromagnetic field. Protein interactions can be considered as resonant energy transfer between the interacting molecules. In simple words each protein and biomolecule has its fingerprint electromagnetic characteristics that can be used for its identification. In living systems long-range electromagnetic fields exchange messages across a distance because of matching emissions and absorption spectra. Non-resonating, unwanted random signals are excluded simply because they do not resonate.

This post is getting a bit long, so I will get more into the world of molecular machines, which make up the foundation upon which biological life is based, in future posts of this series.

The Peak of Sanity - 10

Peak of light

I. Sanity Is

This series does not concern "intelligence" nor its antonym "stupidity."

Both intelligent people and stupid people can lose their sanity.

The same goes for groups, nations, and civilizations.

So, this series about the peak of sanity concerns the peak of the ability of groups, nations, and civilizations, to grasp reality and deal with it (whether that group, nation, or civilization is intelligent or is stupid).

I thought I would mention that distinction first off, because sanity is sometimes confused with intelligence.

By the same token, a lack of sanity is sometimes confused with stupidity.

II. Ignorance Is 

Likewise, "ignorance" is not the opposite of either sanity, intelligence, or stupidity.

Actually, ignorance is an aspect of ignoring elements of knowledge or awareness which a person, group, nation, or civilization could otherwise attain, whether that person, group, nation, or civilization is intelligent or is stupid .

Ignorance, in my opinion, is a seed that grows to eventually diminish sanity and thereby increase insanity in either intelligent or stupid persons, groups, nations, or civilizations.

And so, in today's post, I want to focus on the cultural circuitry that is used to propel the components that diminish sanity, thereby creating the down-slope of the peak of sanity.

III. Agnotology Is

Which brings us to "agnotology," which is "the study of culturally induced ignorance or doubt, particularly the publication of inaccurate or misleading scientific data" (Agnotology: The Surge, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17).

An example of a book that would be placed within the realm of agnotology, is "The Merchants of Doubt" (see The Private Empire's Social Media Hit Squads).

One thing we are doing, when we study ignorance generators, is to search for some of what ends up being the origin of some of the dementia in society.

That is, in one sense dementia can be a loss of the sense of who, what, when, where, how, and/or why we are (You Are Here).

In other words, agnotology is in a very real sense, the study of designed disorientation.

IV. Dementia Is

Regular readers know that Dredd Blog has taken a look at several aspects of some origins of some social dementia (Etiology of Social Dementia, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13).

That exercise, like the book mentioned in Section III above, is an exercise within the parameters of the discipline of agnotology.

Since, in this hypothesis, ignorance can lead to dementia, when we look for the origins of some social dementia, we "follow the money," that is, we follow the immunity (Follow The Immunity, 2, 3).

We do so because the king of the ignorance which leads to dementia "can do no wrong" (Sovereign Immunity Source: Toxins of Power?, Sovereign Impunity: A Child of the Supreme People).

V. Reality Is

Reality begins with the environment a person, group, nation, or civilization lives in.

In the overall sense, we live in the Earth environment, and so our reality begins there.

Whatever we do to our environment we do to ourselves.

Destroy it and we are destroying ourselves:

Guy McPherson is a professor emeritus of evolutionary biology, natural resources and ecology at the University of Arizona, and has been a climate change expert for 30 years. He has also become a controversial figure, due to the fact that he does not shy away from talking about the possibility of near-term human extinction.

While McPherson's perspective might sound like the stuff of science fiction, there is historical precedent for his predictions. Fifty-five million years ago, a 5-degree Celsius rise in average global temperatures seems to have occurred in just 13 years, according to a study published in the October 2013 issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. A report in the August 2013 issue of Science revealed that in the near term, earth's climate will change 10 times faster than during any other moment in the last 65 million years.
Prior to that, the Permian mass extinction that occurred 250 million years ago, also known as the "Great Dying," was triggered by a massive lava flow in an area of Siberia that led to an increase in global temperatures of 6 degrees Celsius. That, in turn, caused the melting of frozen methane deposits under the seas. Released into the atmosphere, those gases caused temperatures to skyrocket further. All of this occurred over a period of approximately 80,000 years. The change in climate is thought to be the key to what caused the extinction of most species on the planet. In that extinction episode, it is estimated that 95 percent of all species were wiped out.

Today's current scientific and observable evidence strongly suggests we are in the midst of the same process - only this time it is anthropogenic, and happening exponentially faster than even the Permian mass extinction did.

(Truthout End of the World ). Additionally, one might consider the bizarre reality that perpetuates the dilemma (When the End of Human Civilization Is Your Day Job).

We, as a civilization, are not taking it seriously:

If you only focused on the United States, you might think coal's days were numbered.

The dirtiest of all fossil fuels once provided more than half of America's electricity. That has since dropped to 39 percent, thanks to competition from cheap natural gas, a tireless campaign by the Sierra Club to shutter old coal plants, and strict new air pollution regulations. Add in the Obama administration's upcoming crackdown on carbon-dioxide emissions from power plants, and US coal will keep waning in the future.

But that's not true globally. Far from it. According to data from BP's Statistical Review of Energy, coal consumption has actually been accelerating worldwide since the end of the 1990s:

(The most important climate story today is the global coal renaissance). One nation's progress is outweighed by another nations backwardness.

Why?

VI. Analysis

At some point in time, way back in past decades, the fatal choice was made, by those who steer the direction of civilization (The Private Empire's Social Media Hit Squads).

The Peak of Sanity / Criminal Epoch

Their decision (not yours), was that the lifeblood energies of civilization, being used then, would be replaced with a different lifeblood, oil, and civilization would thus become addicted to it.

That was the peak of sanity and the beginning of the final epoch (The Criminally Insane Epoch Arises, 2, 3).

The venerable Freud saw this coming, and hypothesised that a group-psychoanalysis discipline was needed to treat groups that were losing it:

If the evolution of civilization has such a far reaching similarity with the development of an individual, and if the same methods are employed in both, would not the diagnosis be justified that many systems of civilization——or epochs of it——possibly even the whole of humanity——have become neurotic under the pressure of the civilizing trends? To analytic dissection of these neuroses, therapeutic recommendations might follow which could claim a great practical interest. I would not say that such an attempt to apply psychoanalysis to civilized society would be fanciful or doomed to fruitlessness. But it behooves us to be very careful, not to forget that after all we are dealing only with analogies, and that it is dangerous, not only with men but also with concepts, to drag them out of the region where they originated and have matured. The diagnosis of collective neuroses, moreover, will be confronted by a special difficulty. In the neurosis of an individual we can use as a starting point the contrast presented to us between the patient and his environment which we assume to be normal. No such background as this would be available for any society similarly affected; it would have to be supplied in some other way. And with regard to any therapeutic application of our knowledge, what would be the use of the most acute analysis of social neuroses, since no one possesses power to compel the community to adopt the therapy? In spite of all these difficulties, we may expect that one day someone will venture upon this research into the pathology of civilized communities. [p. 39]

Men have brought their powers of subduing the forces of nature
to such a pitch that by using them they could now very easily exterminate one another to the last man. They know this——hence arises a great part of their current unrest, their dejection, their mood of apprehension. [p. 40]

(MOMCOM's Mass Suicide & Murder Pact - 5). We failed to develop such a discipline within psychiatry, preferring to stick with personal, individual psychoanalysis instead.

We have been going down hill ever since.

Now, as criminal addicts, our governments talk an empty narrative as they addict civilization to more and more of the oil-drug that will lead to yet another civilization that will have committed suicide.

VII. Conclusion

Religionists may call it the epoch of sin, scientists may call it the Anthropocene, and Dredd Blog may call it the criminally insane epoch, but it all translates into extinction.
