The Saturation Chronicles - 3

I. Background

Today's graphs contrast the heat saturation of the deep ocean with their coastline waters (Appendix 1, Appendix 2).

Previous posts had other  interesting takes on the global oceans, but without contrasting the coastline waters of those states that have shores on those oceans (The Saturation Chronicles, 2).

Only two oceans are featured in today's graphs.

They are (1) the "North Atlantic" which means the Atlantic ocean north of the equator; and (2) the "North Pacific" which means the Pacific ocean north of the equator.

All of the states featured in the graphs have coasts on those oceans (the two gulfs, Mexico and Alaska are contained in the calculations  because the ocean saturation details are covered by coastline calculations).

II. Graph Details

The red lines on the graphs detail the whole ocean area, while the green lines detail only the coastal waters around the land areas. 

There are three lines for each color representing three depth levels epipelagic, mesopelagic, and bathypelagic.

The graphs show that a lot of saturation has taken place in the vast oceans which cover over 70% of the Earth (but you may find that a related series is also helpful to understand the changes taking place in the ocean now (The US States of Sea Level Change, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9)).

Notice in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 that while Hawaii and Alaska have great contrasts in their land areas, they are more similar in their ocean area contrasts.

The North Pacific in which both of them are located has the same red graph line, in each state, along the 40% saturation level, but notice that one of Hawaii's green lines (in situ ho) registers about a 60% saturation level. 

III. Closing Comments

I suspect that ocean heat saturation, as a cause of the surprising temperature accelerations of 2023 and 2024, is a hypothesis that will eventually make its way into the warming commentariat (The Warming Science Commentariat, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15).

In the mean time I intend to keep an eye on it and them.

Jabber The Whut? - 6

Jabber The Whut?

Has the book "The Chronicles of Jabba The Hutt" been written?

His cousin Jabber has been featured here on Dredd Blog (Jabber The Whut?, 2, 3, 4, 5). 

Jabber's cousin is infamous:

"Jabba the Hutt (/ˈɑːbə/ JAH-bə) is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise. He is a large, slug-like crime lord of the Hutt species. Jabba first appeared in the 1983 film Return of the Jedi, in which he is portrayed by a one-ton puppet operated by several puppeteers. In 1997, he appeared in the Special Edition of the original Star Wars film, which had been retitled Star Wars: Episode IV—A New Hope. Jabba made his third film appearance in the 1999 prequel film The Phantom Menace. He is voiced by Larry Ward in Return of the Jedi and by Scott Schumann in A New Hope and The Phantom Menace.

Jabba lives in a palace on the desert planet Tatooine. He places a bounty on the smuggler Han Solo, and sends bounty hunters to capture him. After Darth Vader freezes Solo in carbonite, the bounty hunter Boba Fett delivers the frozen Solo to Jabba, who puts him on display in his palace. A group of Solo's friends attempt to rescue him, but Jabba captures them; he enslaves Princess Leia and decrees that Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, and Solo will be fed to a Sarlacc. Luke orchestrates an escape, and during the chaos Leia strangles Jabba to death"

(Wikipedia Jabba Der Whut). That "Leia" was Princess Leia.

There is some skuttlebutt that Jabber was brought to the Whut House by a prisoner trade done between the Prison at Whut? Gaza on the Island of Sand Just south of Mars.

Reportedly, Elan Must negotiated the art of that deal.

The Peak Of The Oil Wars - 17

The Long Distance From Ear To Brain

Two of the longest distances are the distance from eye to brain and the distance from ear to brain.

Yes, it's many long years in distance because the trip is often taken on Highway 61, so, in this opening up of  today's post, let's bring the Dredd Blog history of oil wars up to date once again.

One reason for doing that is to inform readers that the Ukraine / Russia war is an oil war which the current administration is trying to "settle" differently (CNN, Hegseth rules out NATO membership for Ukraine), and I do mean differently:

"European nations must provide the 'overwhelming' share of funding for Ukraine, the new US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has said, as he signalled a drastic shift in Washington's position on the war."

(BBC, Hegseth sets out hard line on European defence and Nato). But first, let's get up to date with a quote from a decade old Dredd Blog post:

When Russia seized Crimea in March, it acquired not just the Crimean landmass but also a maritime zone more than three times its size with the rights to underwater resources potentially worth trillions of dollars.

The current Secretary of Defense points out that battle lines are being redrawn and the US seems to be intent on working out a deal with Russia so as to substantially weaken the old deal with NATO (Selecting A Leader From The Asylum).

Why Did We Fail To Listen?

This series began over a decade ago (When You Are Governed By Psychopaths, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8).

Undoubtedly  it has been considered to be a mythical conspiracy by those suffering from The "It Can't Happen Here" Trance.

One of the main revelations in this series is how long the relevant information has been available:

"I would not say that such an attempt to apply psychoanalysis to civilized society would be fanciful or doomed to fruitlessness.

The diagnosis of collective neuroses, moreover, will be confronted by a special difficulty. In the neurosis of an individual we can use as a starting point the contrast presented to us between the patient and his environment which we assume to be normal. No such background as this would be available for any society similarly affected; it would have to be supplied in some other way. And with regard to any therapeutic application of our knowledge, what would be the use of the most acute analysis of social neuroses, since no one possesses power to compel the community to adopt the therapy? "In the Study Toynbee examined the rise and fall of 26 civilizations in the course of human history, and he concluded that they rose by responding successfully to challenges under the leadership of creative minorities composed of elite leaders. Civilizations declined when their leaders stopped responding creatively, and the civilizations then sank owing to the sins of nationalism, militarism, and the tyranny of a despotic minority."

Perhaps there are sociopath groups and psychopath groups (2 Ways to Tell Psychopaths and Sociopaths Apart)?
