The El Nino/La Nina Chronicles - 11

The graphs below show the photon movement, aka heat flux, in the equatorial Pacific in the zones indicated by WOD Zone number.

The following line colors indicate the depths: Sea level to 200m (red); 201m to 1000m (green); 1001m to 4000m (brown); 4001m to 5500m (orchid); 5501 to bottom (blue).

The span of years depicted in the graphs (Fig.1 - Fig. 4) totals six and a half decades (65 years).

The temperatures in the deeps show changes because photons spontaneously flow from warmer seawater molecules to cooler seawater molecules (and glacial ice) per the second law of thermodynamics.

The blue, brown, and orchid colored lines are down deep, while the green and red lines are shallower.

Note that the "potential enthalpy" is the term for oceanography science since the advent of the international TEOS-10 (Thermodynamic Equation of Seawater - 2010) standard, which replaced the previous EOS-80 (Equation of State of Seawater 1980) 1980 standard (c.f. Potential Enthalpy: A Conservative Oceanic Variable for Evaluating Heat Content and Heat Fluxes).

These graphs were generated primarily using World Ocean Database (WOD) in situ measurements processed using the TEOS-10 C++ software library.

The ocean absorbs over 90 percent of the solar heat energy which enters the oceans as photons. Those photons are absorbed by ocean water molecules which warms that ocean water.

The warmer water photons are spontaneously emitted as infrared radiation (photons in motion) to be absorbed by cooler ocean water molecules.

These graphs show that these thermodynamic processes have gone
on and on for decades in a dynamic radiating and absorbing process.

Trillions of transactions per second, hour after hour, day after day, and year after year on a global scale.

Eventually the downward trajectory (warmer surface area to cooler deeper areas) changes the deep water temperatures around the globe.

When we recall that the radiating and absorbing can take place in any of the 360 degrees, we can understand how the warming melts even the glaciers in Antarctica that are deep underwater at the grounding lines.

Dr. Eric Rignot points that out in the video below when he spoke before the National Academy of Scientists.

He has also pointed out that these photons of infrared wavelengths have penetrated some kilometers along the grounding line of the Glaciers in Antarctica (Thirty years of glacier grounding line retreat in Antarctica).

It is about time to realize that the global warming is having radical impacts globally, not just in a few windy warm equatorial zones off the Coast of Peru (The Photon Current, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 , 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22).
