This series started in 2011 but has not been refreshed since 2013 (~13 yrs) so here goes.
I read these articles: The Most Dangerous Country and The Rapid and “Unprecedented” Collapse of American Democracy.
Those two posts in the Tom Dispatch blog re-energized the concepts set forth in this decades past series here on Dredd Blog (The Homeland: Big Brother Plutonomy, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9).
Changing the name of "The Department of Defense" into The Department of War is a sufficient "hint" to persuade most folks of the veracity of this series eh?
If not, then perhaps this statement will: "The Department of War is America's oldest and largest government agency" (emphasis added, Link)?
Forefathers indicated that:
"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy." - James Madison
"Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be
dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other.
War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and
armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the
many under the domination of the few. In war, too, the discretionary
power of the Executive is extended; its influence in dealing out
offices, honors, and emoluments is multiplied: and all the means of
seducing the minds, are added to those of subduing the force, of the
people.
The same malignant aspect in republicanism may be traced in the
inequality of fortunes, and the opportunities of fraud, growing out of a
state of war, and in the degeneracy of manners and of morals,
engendered by both.
No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.
Those truths are well established." - James Madison (cf. Good Reads)
The previous post in this series is here.
