The sanctuary of the jihad.
The sanctuary of sacrosanct military spending.
The sanctuary of the neo - American Religion.
Holy imperialism fat man.
A recent Dredd Blog post alluded to this new, gripping religion:
... there’s one huge area of government spending that Democrats and Republicans alike have so far treated as sacrosanct.(Is The Empress Taking Off Her Clothes?, quoting NY Times). The concept of the holy war is bound to the notion of the virgin birth, re-birth, and the ultimate self-righteousness, a.k.a. "exceptionalism", handed down from antiquity:
It’s the military / security world ...
A life-death-rebirth deity, also known as a dying-and-rising or resurrection deity, is a god who is born, suffers death or a death-like experience, passes through a phase in the underworld among the dead, and is subsequently reborn, in either a literal or symbolic sense.(Life-Death-Rebirth Deity). The propaganda of the military's intellectuals, the high-priests of the god of war, is that MOMCOM gave birth to our freedoms, and continues to resurrect our freedoms from death through massive raw military power:
The main claim to fame is that the military portion of MOMCOM gives new meaning to freedom, which is what they claim is their number one product: MOMCOM Freedom.(MOMCOM - A Mean Welfare Queen). The Dredd Blog has often pointed out how the religion of the virgin MOMCOM works:
It is what you get instead of getting your money back. No refunds from MOMCOM.
MOMCOM Freedom is not free, they like to say.
Clearly they are right because their brand (MOMCOM Freedom) costs us more than all the rest of the world combined pay for it. The president, congress, and the judiciary think this is a real bargain, exclaiming "you get the freedom you pay for".
"Upon enlistment, the first act of a Roman soldier was to pledge obedience and devotion to the emperor. Absolute loyalty to authority and to fellow soldiers was the cardinal virtue, and the Mithraic religion became the ultimate vehicle for this fraternal obedience. The Mithras worshippers compared the practice of their religion to their military service."(Doing The Right Thing - Mithraism, emphasis in original). The fundamental tenet of the military's religion, which is a modern form of Mithraism, is unquestioned obedience to the power that makes its followers exceptional.
The military bands have more members playing hail to the chief than the State Department has members seeking to improve America's lot in the world.
We have seen that MOMCOM has been resurrected over and over again as a life-death-rebirth deity:
The Pentagon needed to help Bush II get elected, to save the military oil complex from becoming a class like the military in other countries of the world:(GE Serves The Pentagon On TV Near Yoo). Birth and death are worshiped faithfully by the military priests who believe they are the saviors of the world.
Until more money arrives, the defense apparatus is literally feeding on its own parts, pinching this and that, scrimping here and there, in order to keep the same Cold War force structure in place and the same lineup of new weapons moving through the pipeline of development. During the Cold War era, the military institution acquired a reflexive appetite for growth that it's now unwilling to give up. Instead, it lumbers toward a self-induced crisis of malnourishment, as when an addict's starving body eats its own liver.(Is There A Shadow Government - 2). That was the state of the military just as Bush II was being elected, with the help of GE and the GE CEO, Bush II's greatest campaign contributor.
Yes, MOMCOM exceptionalists know that "God Is On Their Side" so they serve with the fervor of the ultimate zealot, plunging the world into one inferno after another.
Meanwhile, "Church attendance" is going down, that is, only 35% support the Afghan war now according to Raw Story (not that MOMCOM cares what the little people worry about).
The next post in this series is here.
The lyrics to the following song can be read here:
Gives new meaning to the term drive-thru church (like chrystal cathedral man!).
ReplyDeleteYou're on a roll today Dredd. Great post.
ReplyDeleteI noticed that Lindsay Graham (R-Bullshitistan) wants the military ("us") to stay in Afghanistan.
ReplyDeleteA true priest of the war religion, a true zealot, and to top it off he is demanding lowering social security and medicare to pay for the holy wars.

We all saw this one coming disaffected and Randy.
HaHa
ReplyDeleteWhat a visual!
"With GOD on our side!"
@Dredd, apparently today's progressioves, esp those who hang out at Ariana's site, were completely unaware that since the Clintion Administration, $1 Trillion has been "removed" from Food Stamps and SSI. The Wolfkiller spurred a debate when she took on the WSJ stating that there WAS inflation in the food market. Progressives made fun of her "economics," but I repetedly posted comments with Nov '09 price compared with '10 prices for same item. I also called my elected officials with the same info, and criticized Michele's school Obesity program for "robbing Food Stamos" of their share of the "Stimulous," as there was no COLA raise this year, again, based on the Government's "Fuzzy Numbers Inflation." (wortrh a google search)
Result? Letters went out to Food Stamd recipiants that they would recieve a sizable increase!
One thing if sure, Food Stamps and SSI are spent here, not "in country!"
Gotta love the GOP huh? They surely don't pull their punches. SS & MC vs. MOMCOM promises to be "the mother of all battles" as Saddam liked to say, but I think we already know how it's gonna turn out. And to think, they haven't even got control of the WH and the Senate yet. The next two years are gonna be barn burners - as in, if you have a barn, you'll be tempted to go inside and set it on fire to end your misery. The glue holding us together is failing fast. It won't be long now...

The preacher man says May 21, 2011 is THE END:
Kathy,
ReplyDeleteHuffington Post is filled with a lot of deniers, republicans, and even people who are aware.
They are mostly on our side, but fear controls their public persona so that they are afraid to say a lot of things that should be said.
They allow right wingers to deny climate change but they would not allow Jesse Ventura to publish a post about 9/11 Truthers for example.
The preacher man says May 21, 2011 is THE END:
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it's going to be televised? I'll bet the rights are worth $Trillions!
It ("the end") is going to start in the House of Misrepresentatives, CSPAN TV ... check it out ...
ReplyDeleteLets face it, seriously, something is going to end, and most likely it is the reputation of that church.
It happened in the mid-nineteenth century with The Millerites who ended up with The Great Disappointment.
One should never be too sure of themselves, because things can change and we can a do deceive ourselves sometimes.
Dredd, thanks for the reply. The point I was making was that progressives need to educate themselves on this issue (and others) in order to fight back. At the time I was posting in support of the wolf killer's economics, the progressives were calling me a teabagger, and denying there was inflation in food prices. I am glad to see that some took my posts seriously, and looked into it.
ReplyDeleteThat is one reason why I read your blog. I do like someone who is not blinded by the light!
PS. I am updating my blogs, finally, and welcome your feedback.
Kathy,
ReplyDeleteI noticed that even progressives were fooled by the right-wing MOMCOM surreptitious generation of "the tea party".
The true Boston Tea Party had formed a year or so before that (2006), and was a left, independent, progressive group, with members like Cynthia McKinney.
The media may have feared that the left's version would take hold, so they fabricated a right wing republican majority "tea party" and stole the name.
Then their minions in the media carried the water and the nutbag candidates hit the air waves.
