The Citizen Journalist In America - 5

Don't Look Up

"They're selling postcards of the hanging, they're painting the passports brown

The beauty parlor is filled with sailors, the circus is in town

Here comes the blind commissioner, they've got him in a trance

One hand is tied to the tight-rope walker, the other is in his pants

And the riot squad they're restless, they need somewhere to go

As Lady and I look out tonight, from Desolation Row"

The previous post in this series is here.

  1. I suspect that we are all exhausted, with almost everything, certainly what the media pretends to call "news". Although I try to read it and stay abreast of what is relevant, it's proving to be a futile exercise.

I'm only speaking for my wife and myself, but I do think there are probably millions of others that feel the same way. We're absolutely sick to death of all of it. False headlies, ridiculous stories, poor journalism, no investigation, biased reporting, opinionated garbage - all of it pretending to be "news", interspersed with relentless ads, phony claims and a non-stop assault on your senses of which there is no escape short of abandonment of all of it. The ubiquitous propaganda is absolutely devastating on society.

I've continued to cut down on my daily reading lists out of necessity (clearly, you're still on the list!) because I can't stand the non-stop misleading bullshit and fake outrage being presented as "news". It's not news, it's propaganda, all of it. The media has forsaken their readership in favor of advertisers and revenue. Whatever the fourth estate used to be, it's certainly not around anymore. And the fifth estate has become just as bad - non-stop product endorsements, whoring out once-respectable information channels, endless bias and malformed opinions. I'm damned glad you haven't done that here.

In effect, it is my opinion that the entirety of the media / social empires that permeate our civilization have abandoned their purposes and beginnings and are now totally co-opted as disinformation outlets for propaganda and mind-control. Worse, few participants have seem to have noticed, and readers don't even seem to care, demonstrating a almost complete take-over of the human mind.

There are outliers here, still around, but I think most of us have just chosen to shut up in absolute disgust.
