Government Climate Change Report - 8

In 1990 Congress passed, and President Bush (Bush I) signed into law, a bill that concerned global warming induced climate change, a subject that was then recognized as settled science in both the Republican and Democratic parties (Global Change Research Act of 1990).

Before a decade had passed, Oil-Qaeda had commenced a furious and dishonest propaganda campaign to "change people's minds" on this issue.

They used the same propaganda techniques that had been used in the tobacco propaganda campaigns concerning cigarette smoking.

But, with arguably more success since their right-wing base doesn't get the climate science any more, some senators don't get it either, and even more republicans in the U.S. House no longer get it.

Back then the Marshall Institute was hired to carry the ball to try to convince the nation that smoking cigarettes had nothing to do with lung cancer, but they lost that battle along with the associated lawsuits against Big Tobacco.

So, the Marshall Institute eventually handed the ball off to The Heartland Institute, which caused both of them to come under the scrutiny of agnotologists (The Exceptional American Denial, Agnotology: The Surge).

In the recent incarnations of this ongoing Oil-Qaeda propaganda plot, the zealots among the denialists, heavily funded by ALEC of Oil-Qaeda, have started a tax war against the solar panel industry (In Heated Arizona Solar Battle, Top Regulators Tied To ALEC).

Meanwhile the science moves forward, and tomorrow The National Climate Assessment by NCADAC is due to be released:
The National Climate Assessment, a 1,300-page report compiled by 300 leading scientists and experts, is meant to be the definitive account of the effects of climate change on the US. It will be formally released at a White House event and is expected to drive the remaining two years of Barack Obama's environmental agenda.
(Guardian, National Climate Assessment). In this series we have been pointing out the decades-old history behind this report and the national law that created it (Government Climate Change Report).

It is interesting that the military, at least the Naval forces in the military, are in agreement with the science (Has The Navy Fallen For The Greatest Hoax?).

Which puts them at odds with the right-wing, which is primarily driven by warmonger ideology.

The military seems to be composed of a quilt-work of political ideology like the general population, which would seem to be a failure on the part of the military --consistency of policy in the ranks being one hallmark of a stable chain of command.

The official report site is here.
