The Peak of Sanity - 6

Down Town
Regular readers know that this series is based on civilization's blindness to the consequences of improper use and pollution of the resources of the Earth, exacerbated by overpopulation.

The other leg of it has to do with the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

The primary fault for the loss of world sanity falls on western civilization.

It was those nations, led by the U.S., that spread the addiction to oil all around the globe (A History of Oil Addiction).

Some examples of other series that have some similar subject matter are (The Peak Of The Oil Wars, Peak Agriculture, The Peak of The Oil Lies, The Peak of Health And The Peak of Oil , On The Peak of Intelligence, and The Peak Of The Oil Wars).

The previous post in this series is here.

The following video discusses the issues involved with population and resources.

The Homeland: Big Brother Plutonomy - 8

You can peacefully assemble elsewhere
The home of the brave and the land of the free is still becoming the home of the knave and the land of the wee.

Anymore, when one sees a group of jackbooted storm troopers, it is difficult to figure out who they are assaulting.

Since they assault those who owe money on student loans, and they assault people who want to withdraw their money from banks that have become casinos, one can't tell if they are Keystone Kops suffering from dementia, and perhaps thinking that they are in Kabul or Baghdad.

Like the cold GOP led House Republicans' response to Hurricane Sandy, documentation of the federal government's response to the Occupy movement, a group composed of the poor, homeless, students, and other Americans, shows they were assaulted in mass by Homeland Big Brother:
New documents prove what was once dismissed as paranoid fantasy: totally integrated corporate-state repression of dissent

It was more sophisticated than we had imagined: new documents show that the violent crackdown on Occupy last fall – so mystifying at the time – was not just coordinated at the level of the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, and local police. The crackdown, which involved, as you may recall, violent arrests, group disruption, canister missiles to the skulls of protesters, people held in handcuffs so tight they were injured, people held in bondage till they were forced to wet or soil themselves – was coordinated with the big banks themselves.
(FBI & Oppression Corps, emphasis added). Those who gambled criminally with the treasury, and were bailed out, helped orchestrate the oppression of their victims.

Read more about the machinations of these criminals in the series Banker Jekyll Will Hyde Your Money through Banker Jekyll Will Hyde Your Money - 9.

In the first post of this series regular readers here on Dredd Blog read about the way the military plans to become involved if the people recoil too harshly to Big Brother Banks that are taking their hard earned money from the public:
A new report by the U.S. Army War College talks about the possibility of Pentagon resources and troops being used should the economic crisis lead to civil unrest, such as protests against businesses and government or runs on beleaguered banks.

“Widespread civil violence inside the United States would force the defense establishment to reorient priorities in extremis to defend basic domestic order and human security,” said the War College report.

The study says economic collapse, terrorism and loss of legal order are among possible domestic shocks that might require military action within the U.S.
(The Homeland: Big Brother Plutonomy, see also Will The Military Become The Police). It is likely that some of you thought Dredd Blog was kidding or overreacting.

But what makes "sense" of this unAmerican behavior on the part of rabid authoritarians, is the fact that those who control the banks here are actually international corporations that like to remind us that they are "not an Amercian company", which is well documented:
A University of Zurich study 'proves' that a small group of companies - mainly banks - wields huge power over the global economy.

The study is the first to look at all 43,060 transnational corporations and the web of ownership between them - and created a 'map' of 1,318 companies at the heart of the global economy.

The study found that 147 companies formed a 'super entity' within this, controlling 40 per cent of its wealth. All own part or all of one another. Most are banks - the top 20 includes Barclays and Goldman Sachs. [Bank of America is in the top 25]
(MOMCOM: The Private Parts - 3, emphasis added). There you go regular readers, you already knew, but today we find out how organized the aliens are, and that they intend to tighten the screws of your oppression even more.

Barry & Oil-Qaeda vs Arctic Wilderness

Oil-Qaeda vs Arctic (drill rig aground)
We have been following the debacle of President Obama's team Oil-Qaeda as they have made war on the Arctic Wilderness.

In the Dredd Blog post Sanity Can't Win For Losing (5/14/10) it was pointed out that environmentalists had sued Royal Dutch Shell in federal court to stop the Arctic attack, and that the case was brought because various watchdog organizations, such as Oceana, saw that environmental protections had not been put in place, and probably couldn't be.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals couldn't see that far ahead so it allowed the drilling to go forward, ruling against the environmentalists (ibid).

Next, President Obama went to bat for Oil-Qaeda by issuing orders to expedite the effort to drill in the Arctic because "America had decided" to drill baby drill:
What do Arctic drilling and drone killing have in common? They are both being decided by Barack Obama without public debate ... several federal administrators responsible for regulating offshore oil drilling operations “had used cocaine and marijuana, and had sexual relationships with oil and gas company representatives” ... [under Bush II] ... A May 24 front–page article in The New York Times made clear that Obama got personally involved and fast–tracked Shell’s drilling permits.
(Hottest Month (July) on Record). Then the safety system designed to go into action if any Deepwater Horizon event should develop crashed and burned:
Four weeks ago, on Saturday, September 16th [2012], in clear, calm, warm summer weather on Puget Sound, something happened while Shell Oil was testing its new, post-Deepwater Horizon oil blowout containment dome.  The dome system was being deployed during a certification test being performed by Shell, its agent in the refurbishment and system makeover of the 35-year-old barge, Arctic Challenger, Superior Marine Technical Services, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE).

Something happened. The test failed miserably, and the containment dome was severely damaged.
(What Really Happened, emphasis added). That piece goes on to explain that even though a safety mechanism had not been developed and tested, the feds had already allowed the drilling in the Arctic to proceed.

In the series You're Doin' A Heckuva Job Browner (10/10/10) through You're Doin' A Heckuva Job Browner - 4 (10/10/12) we continued to point out the danger and folly of the federal government's panicky support of Oil-Qaeda, and called for Browner to be fired.

Meanwhile, the drilling in the Arctic lasted one or two days before the "Arctic Challenger" and the "Kulluk" had to run for the border in the face of Arctic dangers (ibid).

Then, while on the run from the Arctic extremes the Kulluk legacy was destroyed as it was driven aground on Sitkalidak / Kodiak Island, and was being battered by 30-50 foot waves:
The Royal Dutch Shell ship, the Kulluk, which was used in the Arctic last summer, ran aground on Monday on a sand and gravel shore off
an uninhabited island near Kodiak Island in the Gulf of Alaska.
...
US Representative Ed Markey, the top Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee, issued a statement on Tuesday expressing his concerns about the situation. "Oil companies keep saying they can conquer the Arctic, but the Arctic keeps disagreeing with the oil companies," Markey said. "Drilling expansion could prove disastrous for this sensitive environment."
(Guardian, see also this). It wasn't long ago that activists pointed out the two major catastrophe generating policies of current government: environmental catastrophe and nuclear weapon catastrophe (Epigovernment: The New Model - 2).

We now know that incompetence in both of those areas of policy render security non-existent to the degree that catastrophe of some sort can be reasonably expected.

Another storm is now headed for Kodiak: Arctic Sea Ice Blog.

Eventually, an evaluation team boarded and observed the Kulluk but what they found is being guarded and kept secret (story here).

And finally, the drilling rig was forcefully towed to a safer harbor, for further damage evaluation.

The next post in this series is here.

The Kulluk ran aground about 60 miles south of Kodiak, Alaska following a storm. Another storm coming towards it.
