Happy Mother's Day.

Enjoy this quote from a famous mother:

There’s a time when you have to explain to your children why they’re born, and it’s a marvelous thing if you know the reason by then.”

(Hazel Scott, American Musician, from the book Quotable Women, Running Press, 1989).

  1. Richard Shelby says "technology has gotten ahead of regulators, and we've got to get the regulators ahead of the technolgy," on Face the Nation this morning regarding Wall St's latest stunt. Chris Dodd says "I made money, so who gives a fuck!" (not really).

Earth to Congress, regulation will NEVER stay ahead of technology! The way to fix programmed trading is either eliminate it (not possible) or quarantine to its own separate exchange (next to impossible). In other words, the markets have now become an electronic cyber-casino where anything goes, with little hope for fixing any of it.

The only long term solution for us little guys will be to get our money out of the mainstream banking system (starve the beast!), as it's all tied to the stock markets either directly or indirectly.

Of course, even that won't help once they crash (or inflate) the dollar into worthlessness, but its the gesture that counts.

  3. The mother of all Titanic mistakes is to think what we do to the environment has no effect on us.
